  1. 1. I am an alias poster because?

    • No I'm not - I am who I am and proud of my views
    • I rather wear the cloak of disguise, it's fun that way
    • I don't want my views to be public so get lost

Just me and Tara_Dad having a larf!:lol::lol::lol:

With all the paranoia in the local rags and now this thread on the forum thought it was getting a bit booorrring!

We don't need a drink to have a laugh! and we don't need full name, age, D.O.B. gender, fingerprints, or D.N.A. profile to be able to communicate with people.

Think Geoffrey should try and relax more and not be such a party pooper!

Try and enter into the spirit of things Geoff.

It's not that hard to guess the identity of posters and it can even be fun!

If you need some help here's some clues..........

Asperity is not revealing his identity because he'd soon lose his street cred on 'the high seas' without his eye patch!

If Bill mentions a best mate called Ben wev'e got him sussed!

Paul is Paul Kennedy the councillor.....or maybe he isn't :lol:

Obs is really short for obvious............. It's obvious.................... he's Dennis Thatcher! (to hate Maggie that much he must know her really well, but he's stuck with her due to his deep committment to marriage)

Not sure if Peter's right about Steve though!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: :lol: :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

i post with an alias.

when i first started posting i worked for the government (still do in a way  ). i was not sure what the view of my employers was about people posting on a forum so i started the alias of sid.

this is an acronym from people asking me all the time where i worked.as it was the nuclear physics laboratory i was a bit careful about answering so would just say Somewhere In Darebury (SID)

after having my nervous breakdown i added the evil part as i was feeling a lot depressed and "Turned to the dark side"

since then i have not felt a need to change it and think that if i posted under my real name most posters would not even notice such is my style or lack of.

my avatar is a picture of myself only very slightly adjusted and may at some time get updated if i get a spare five minutes and feel up to messing about with the camera and photo software.

as for my views that all depends on what day it is and what time i manage to wake up in a morning. (usually about half nine, i am up at quarter past seven but not awake fully until half nine)

all in all it does not really matter in the grand scheme of things (if there is a grand scheme that is)

Good post Sid and reasons.

I've just received this today from a a company called the 'Carrer Insider' sound like an alias in it's self.

Q. How can I stop potential employers Googling me?

I've got an interview next week with a big company. My friend warned me the interviewer might Google me or look me up on Facebook. How can I stop this invasion of privacy?

- S.R., Norwich

A.

Dear S.R.,

Sounds like you're worried what the interviewer might find ... but you can't stop anyone looking you up online. Every blog post, tweet, status update and photo leaves a footprint online, whether you like it or not. With over 80% of potential employers researching you online (source: CIPD), you need to make sure your online reputation is up to scratch.

Where do employers look?

Employers will dig up information about you from your Facebook page (change your settings to private if you don't want them to see it). But they also look on other popular networking sites like LinkedIn, MySpace, Bebo, YouTube and Twitter ? and also lesser-known sites like Biznik, Xing, and Ziggs. There are also Big Brother-like applications like the Xobni plug-in for Outlook where an employer can see a snapshot of your online presence as soon as you email them.

Where can you look?

Start by Googling yourself (not as painful as it sounds); specify the exact term by searching for ?your name? in quote marks. Run sophisticated searches by adding your job title, previous employers and so on. Look at the ?deep web' ? check specialist search sites like WhosTalkin and Social Mention, which find all mentions of you in weird and wonderful social media sites. You might be mentioned in business directories, on other people's blogs, or old employers' websites

But as Gary implies so many hits yet so few votes and at the end of the day no one knows the identity of a voter so why don't the silent majority vote?

.. maybe the silent majority of 'hitters' are only nosey viewers and are not registered members of the forum. I believe certain councillors etc like to keep up with what's being said on here daily 8)

545 viewings and 11 votes - just about says it all really!

Very true .......... it's down to personal choice if people use an alias, most just want to read the posts and not respond, horses for courses !

As regards the starter of this thread how do we know you're Geoffrey Settle anyway ???
