observer
Plans to vet volunteers, who volunteer to take kids to sporting events etc; will no doubt be another nail in the coffin of the act of volunteering; and stoke up the current paranoia about peadophiles hiding behind every bush. Whilst every child should be made risk aware by their parents; the fact is that the biggest risk to children arises from not strangers, but people they know, often within families. We've had several cases reported recently, where MOTHERS, have killed their own children, now how will the ever growing data base of vetted folk stop that? Peter T
Bit of a blow to WBC, as allegedly, they are expecting the volunteers to take over the running of a lot of stuff that they can't afford to run.
asperity
A while back I was about to volunteer my services to the Sea Cadets, but the "authorities " brought in the checks. I've got no skeletons hiding in the cupboard but I will not allow my private life to be explored by some low life for no good reason. Sorry Sea Cadets but thats life under the PC brigade. observer
It's called shedding your liabilities: 70% of the budget goes on wages, plus generous and costly pension schemes (quite rightly imo); but in the future of austerity, Councils will be begging for "volunteers".
