More Roman silver unearthed tonight ....

Recommended Posts

:D I estimated the silver coin recovered last night to be a Republican Silver coin of aaprox 49bc.....

Here is the official identification i received this morning :)

Dear James,

A tricky one this time, but I think that you may be right about Glabrio. The obverse head is, I think, that of Salus, with the legend [sAL]VTI. All I can see of the reverse is a standing figure, though I think that there is a legend on both sides. It certainly could be the figure of Valetudo with the legend MNACILIVS VALE. This would be a coin of Manius Acilius of 49 BC (Crawford, Roman republican Coinage 442, 1a).
