trojan Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Must say I was a gutted when I heard that Widnes had gone into administration. I was hoping that they would get promoted and I could once more look forward to the Wire v Vikings derby matches. Wire v Huddersfield just doesn't have the same appeal With ICI and the rest of the chemical industry now moved out of Widnes I suppose the sponsorship just isn't there. Quote
KeithR Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 I was very jealous of the Widnes side in the 80's and 90's. They played some of the best rugby I have ever seen and that includes the present day Stains. World club champions was one hell of an achievement for such a small club. I hope that they can get back in business asap. Quote
Gary Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 I wouldn't worry too much - it is just a way of writing off debt - I am sure they will bounce back - in the first division!. They are currently up for sale! Quote
Robbo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Apparently they were named Club of the Year at this year's Co-operative National League Awards. so not much hope for the rest. Think the players knew the problems as 8 of the team that played in the National League final had already signed contracts for Super League clubs. Quote
Gary Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Widnes had eight players good enough for Super League - how come they got thrashed by Cas then? Quote

AdrianR Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 think you'll find more will go this way if franchising comes in especially if relegation is ruled out. Quote
