Evil Sid
spuds with cheese on? a quick search found several on the net but i have never tried any of those. only time i do spuds with cheese is to mash spuds as normal and then grate cheese over the top and melt under the grill. options for me are to add garden peas or sweetcorn and mix into the mashed spuds before adding the cheese. one recipe i do remember but not for dauphinoi is to slice potatoes and onions and layer in a roasting tin. on top place a few rashers of streaky bacon, add a small amount of stock, cover with foil and cook in the oven. not sure of timings as i used to make this in a morning and leave on slow cook all day whilst at work. observer
basically sliced spuds covered in a white sauce (cheese?), but how do you do the sauce?
Eagle
If you have got BBC Iplayer have a look at last night's "Economy Gastronomy" (BBC2) I am pretty sure that dauphinoise potatoes were part of a meal. It was only in the background but I think double cream and garlic were mentioned.
observer
I watched it, but by the time I'd got pen and paper, they'd moved on to something else - there were some good basic recipes in the prog too. I've tried my own concoction of "dauphinoi" before, which wasn't too bad - but I just wanted the exact recipe.
Eagle
I have had a look on iPlayer Fry onions & garlic, pour on double cream, season and mix in beef stock. Slice & season the spuds, pour on sauce and bang in oven.
