Lt Kije
Asperity Can you let me have the link, to where you get your report from that we have only exploited a third of the oil in the oil fields
asperity
Try these for a starter: http://fossil.energy.gov/programs/oilgas/eor/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_oil_recovery http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_oil_recovery But I'm sure that you will be able to produce evidence that actually oil ran out 2 years ago. The thing is that I actually have an optimistic view of the world and don't believe the sky is falling.

asperity
Funny Baz, I worked for years out of Aberdeen, No one there shares your view How strange. Baz doesn't seem to have contributed to this topic. Anyway the government seems to be determined to carry on with its joined up policies: http://tinyurl.com/nghbo6 Wind power and British jobs for British workers. You couldn't make it up. Lt Kije
I agree asperity that wind power in the UK has more to do with making the government look green than being of any use. The trouble is all three main parties are falling over themselves to look green, so who ever gets in next time will not stop it
Evil Sid
so the large wind turbines need a fair bit of their output to keep them going. why cannot smaller turbines(say the size of a household fan) be fitted to supply the larger ones with the extra they need so that all the output of the large ones goes into the grid. if it takes say six small ones to do this then maybe that would be a solution. also a thought for electric cars. ducting on the car could supply air to small turbines in the body and be used to charge the battery when the car was moving or even when stationary if the wind was in the right direction. Lt Kije
The problem with electric cars is more to do with the battries than anything else
Peter T
I wonder if any stats have been compiled for the one at the NWDA?
Lt Kije
Peter Apparently it very green and ticks all the right boxes
Peter T
I was wondering about cost saving and payback time. Do people need an NVQ to tick boxes?
Lt Kije
Peter do we need NVQs at all
Peter T
No, but they did replace common sense, and therefore until that is back , we need something and I guess brainwashing is as good as anything.
Lt Kije
Seems we agree on this I think you can get an NVQ in common sense
Peter T
Nah, the modern lot couldn't come up with a suitable program.
Bill
So if there's such a big demand for wind power, what's happening down on the Isle of White where the countries bigest wind generator manufacturer is closing down? Just dosn't seem to make much sense. Bill
Bazj
Did you know that a lot of the windmills are assembled in the same location at Harland & Wolf in Belfast that the Titanic was built? There y'are now!
observer
According to the News: the company believes that the UK take up of their product has been rather slow.
Paul Kennedy
Because most of the planning applications get objected to. Funnily enough in another Council that I know of, 2 similar applications came before the Committee, who vote secretly via an electronic system, the first application was approved, then the electronic system packed up and the second vote was a show of hands....guess what, it was rejected.
