Jerry
This week I obtained a DVD of a "Paris, Je T'aime" with little 5 minute vignettes (?) from the Paris streets, winner of a Toronto and a Cannes Film Festival, showing the work of 18 different directors with purported slices of Parisienne life. The jacket says "Stories of Love from the City of Love. Ha! I can't remember even one of the 18 suggesting love. Oh, lust, or nonsense -- like the one with Elijah Wood being seduced by a vampire -- silly things. Still some of them will make you laugh and a few will make you shed tears. The actors, mostly French, but including Steve Buscemi, Willam DeFoe, Gerard Depardieu (could it be a French film without Gerard?), as actor and director, Marianne Faithful (remember her in Marie Antoinette as Maria Theresa of Austria?) Ben Gazzara, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Bob Hoskins, Natalie Portman, Nick Nolte, Miranda Richardson, Gena Rowlands, well they are cameos. When I told my grandson about it he already was familiar and said, "there's also a "New York, I Love You" Hm. Is there a "London I Love You." ? If there isn't, we'll always have "Love, Actually". It was one director but the whole thing was a masterpiece.
