observer Posted December 21, 2008 Report Share Posted December 21, 2008 The US has announced an extra 20 - 30,000 troops are being sent to Afghanistan, which must put NATO numbers similar to that of the Russians, during their occupation - but the Russians got beat! Davy51 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Share Posted December 22, 2008 The Russians made a major mistake in conscripting many troops from fringe states whose religion was Islam & these recruits were reluctant to wage war on their Muslim "enemy" which along with the hostile terrain defeated the Ruskies.I don't think they were helped either by the US funding of the Mujihadeen,or the sight of reporter Sandy Gall running about with a teatowel on his head.
