Peter T
But M & S don't specialise. When they tried to compete with the likes of Next, they failed, and had to go back to what they were good at. People shop at Marks for quality. They shopped at Woolies for the all-round options. Woolies tried to compete and failed because they reverted to records and sweets. Shops like Wilkinson's emulated stores like Woolies and made it work. More choice?? Do we really need 2000 different hair shampoos to pick from? Also I would have thought that price and the age of the person etermines where they shop. "Bring back the corner shop at supermarket prices".
Dizzy
Fed up of hearing about it today. Radio all day has been 'woolies woolies woolies'. What actually got on my nerves were all the whingers that were spouting off all day on the radio reports etc complaining that they had queued up since the early hours to get their 'bargains' but were disappointed and some stuff wasn't 50% off at all .....and the queues were long Another woman on the live virgin internet news moaned cos she wanted to get a couple of packets of woolies stickers for her therapy class and waited until her day off (today) to get them but unfortunately there were only two sets of stickers left and because of the queues she couldn't get them Does she need a therapist These type of people are more like Vultures if you ask me and what a pitty they don't spare a thought for the 25,000+ employees of Woolies who are alsmost certainly about to lose their jobs
Paul Kennedy
Totally agree with you Dismayed. I haven't often shopped there, and I won't now just because I might save a few ?s. Just wondering, where do you take faulty items for exchange or refund, once they've closed down.

Looks as though those expecting to get a pension will have to apply to the compensation scheme to get it. Existing pensions it is thought will be OK. Bazj
Well now that Gordon has finished saving the world, maybe he can save a few jobs at Woolies!
Gary
Well now that Gordon has finished saving the world, maybe he can save a few jobs at Woolies! Bit late now -closing down sale started and other stores like Iceland have already started acquiring the prime locations!
Eagle
The closing down sale in Leigh comprises the same goods with the same reductions as the last two weeks.
