Talking of silly names... this is about the Crosby By-election in 1981.

Mentions Warrington... and also a candidate called Kennedy... and even a candidate who stood in suppot of a Conservative-Liberal Alliance :lol:

The candidate with the rather long name was simply referred to as 'Mr Tarquin Biscuit-Barrel' by the returning officer when the results were given... rather than using his full name

Getting back to the theme of this thread, after 11+ years of "full employment" Labour we find that actually the employment rate was higher in 1990 than now, that 80% of new jobs that have been created since 1997 have gone to migrants, this summer has seen the largest rise in unemployment since 1992, there are nearly 5,000,000 on out of work benefits, that the numbers on youth unemployment and on incapacity benefit are higher than in in 1997.:roll::roll: So much spin, so many lies, so many broken promises.:roll::roll:

AND Obs don't lay this one on Maggie for petes sake!!!!!!

Asp I think we could all pick out figures to suit the case. You start off with 1990 then you move to 1992 and then on to 1997. It seems that the spin and lies from the Tory years has worked on you in the same way that the spin and lies from the Labour years has affected others.

I won't, except to say, that she had (despite her rhetoric), the opportunity to take us out of the mess we call the EU - but didn't. Immigration is one of the "fundementals" that New Labour have totally failed to address, in fact quite the opposite, the beard and sandal brigade have actually compounded matters and compromised the integrity of this Country, making us a global joke.

It's this government which is boasting about high employment/low unemployment when in actual fact the truth is that the indigenous population is worse off now as regards employment than they were 10 years ago. And of course the years 1990, 1992 and 1997 come out because a comparison has to start somewhere. As for Tory spin/Labour spin, well I for one don't believe anything any politician says.:wink:

When you talk about the mess we call the EUSSR you can lay the blame for that squarely at the (dead) feet of Ted Heath who lied through his not inconsiderable teeth to get us enmeshed in that corrupt edifice in the first place. Tony Bliar, when in opposition, vowed to get us out but then dug us in further when in number 10, and even gave away a substantial part of the rebate that Maggie fought for and won. In between times "Sunny" Jim Callaghan just ran the country into the ground. Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose!:wink::wink:

As I've suggested on previous posts: the 3million plus unemployed created as an instrument of social engineering by Thatcher, in order to de-man our industries (presumably to make them leaner and more competative, yet has come to bite us back in many services like the NHS); and funded by N/Sea oil revenues, was an embarrassment that required camoflaging, hence their transfer into incapacity and the origin of the culture of benefit dependency, which has been passed on to succeding generations.:wink:
