Having banned smoking inside pubs in their last outing in Parliament,  which resulted in the closure of over 50% of pubs; it seems these latter day Puritans are now targeting the simple pleasures of the WWC, by extending the ban to the external gardens of pubs. Further evidence of the petty spiteful attacks by the middle class elites looking down on the great unwashed from their Islington dinner parties.   Well, like the last set of Puritans in Parliament, they will be rejected by the populace; next time for more than 14 years?   😠

The proposition defies logic. He is motivated by a supposed black hole in finances and wants to reduce the enormous burden on the NHS. So the way to do that for Labour is to ban something that causes disease but that is dropping already. In England, Health is devolved so on England is Kier's business, 20% of Adults smoked but in 2022 (the latest figures) 0nly 12.7% of a larger number smoked. So he is taking away freedoms because he can not because it will help much, and then only in 30 years time. Performative nonsense from a clown of a Prime Minister. They could save much more money and earlier by getting efficiency agreements with the sweet heart Public Service Union pay deals. This stuff is going to carry on and on because they are amateurs who still think they are in opposition. Starmer's personal rating is plummeting according to a more in common poll done this week. Mere in Common is funded by left wing supporters but currently funded for polls by right wing news papers. Not surprising since lefties know what happening but don't want anyone else to know! It can change nothing because of the stonking majority Labour go because of people voting tactically.

Your certainly right about the amaterist  nature of Starmer's polit-beuro, driven by spite, they're already dropping one clanger after another.   While pensioners choose between eating and heatIng  this Winter, in the UK;   any UK pensioners in warmer climes, like Cyprus (ex-Pats) will remain entitled to their Winter fuel allowance, due to the Brexit agreement.  Migrants won't be freezing either;  the HO have pre-booked hotels for them, as more arrive by boat.   If it wasn't so serious, you could be forgiven for laughing.  😠

I think one contributer to a Talk phone in had it right, when he said they (The Starmer Staffel),  in true 1984 style, want to remove the WWC from any form of social discussion, be it in a pub or on social media,  and to force them into a reliance on a contaminated MSM for their information (Gov propaganda).   It appears there are no fiscal reasons for the coming punishment, the so-called "black hole" can be resolved by fiscal manipulation with the BoE, so it can only be described as "Operation Punishment"  for the great unwashed,  to basically impoverish them and force them into servile compliance with Gov edicts, that will become more distopian in time.   The exodus of "the rich" from the UK, means the tax burden will fall more heavily on the poorest in society,  all out of sheer spite, by the Islington elite.    😠

Afraid it's in the nature of societies, whatever political creed they profess, that all finish up with a privileged ruling elite, spared the hardships of the many, whilst often claiming their best interests.   Lenin, Stalin and Moa,  promoted the interests of the peasants in their propaganda,  whilst living in relative luxury themselves. So perhaps there is no 'ism that provides 100% satisfaction.  Starmer has been critical of the term "populism",  as clearly he has nothing in common with the populace,  but if policies are "popular", it implies they have majority consent.  However, in a society of differing educational and financial attainment, differing interests develop and elites begin to play the system for their own benefit.   The nearest we've come to real democracy, has probably been the Brexit Referendum, and look what the elites have done to that.   😢
