Bill
Good to see that this government is taking swift action to remove Zombie knives rather than the two years the others had said it would take to do. Not so sure about the idea of paying the market value for any stuff handed in but if it makes it work then I suppose it’s worth it. What really shocked me though this morning was hearing about the bonkers legislation that had been put into place where in essence it said it’s perfectly legal to continue to buy and sell zombie knives providing they contained no wording relating to killing. Who makes this sort of stuff up. Grrrr! Bill 😊
Observer II
Weapons don't kill by themselves, but the mind behind them. As this Gov seems to think it can control our minds, they should be successful ! 😉
ninearches
Why can't they be banned immediately ?
Bill
I can understand how some things might have to go through all the long-winded parliamentary processes but in the case of zombi knives where 99.99% of the population agree they should be banned, there should be no time-wasting debates. I seem to recall the previous government saying that it would take two years to put the laws into place which is just stupid. It won’t stop knife crime, and it’s absolutely nothing to do with observers ridiculous suggestion of government mind control, but it’d take a weapon specifically designed to terrorise people off the streets and that has to be a good thing. Observer II
Nothing ridiculous about it Bill, a large number of these crimes are committed by perps with mental issues, others with anger management issues; take away the zombie knives and they'll move on to kitchen knives. Bill
“This Gov seems to think it can control our minds” what’s that got to do with the banning of zombie knives? Yes, people who use these things aren’t quite right in the head, but these types of knives aren’t designed to appeal to normal people are they? They might only represent a small percentage of knife crime but unlike a kitchen knife, they’re intended to put the fear of God into people and as such should imo be immediately banned. Other than the speed at which this gets done, there’s no sensible argument anyone could bring to this discussion that would condone the sale and possession these weapons. Bill 😊
Observer II
Who's trying to condone it ? I still hold the old fashioned belief, that anyone who has to resort to a weapon is basically a coward, from the days when a fight meant fisticuffs. If these nutters are bent on killing folk, they'll still do it wherever blades exist, even kitchen knives.
Bill
Nobodies condoning them Obs, but to be fair, your posts to date do seem to completely ignore the zombie knives issue and focus entirely on blame. We all know about nutters and other knife types but the question being asked is should the government be taking special measures as it did with the rioters to expedite the removal of these terror weapons. Bill 😊
Observer II
I don't "IGNORE" Zombie knives, just recognise that they are just one example of a bladed weapon that can be used to kill. If they really want rid of these particular knives, perhaps they should tackle the source.
Bill
You may as well ignore them if you believe they’re just like any other knife that could be used to kill. There’s a huge difference between these and other knives as well you know. Plus, by saying that “they” want to remove them implies it’s something you’re not particularly bothered about. The debate here is specifically about zombie knives rather than knife crime in general but if you’re not remotely interested then why bother posting? It's quite easy. Should they be banned or not? Bill 😊
Observer II
So, like drugs etc, if they are "banned" you seek to eliminate the supply and distribution, you also increase stop and search otherwise it's just BS. This Gov seems keen on announcing "bans" as if in itself, it solves problems, when in reality, it amounts to no more than sound bites. ninearches
Along with all other weapons ,crimes are deemed so much easier when you have a weapon to strike the fear of God into your victims. A government that can drastically reduce the number of all illegal weapons in the UK & the drugs that fuel many of these criminals will go a long way to reducing violent crime. Bill
That was an easy question Obs that only required a simple yes or no to clarify your view on the subject. I don’t have a problem if you choose to disagree with the ban but calling it BS puts you in a very small minority, most of whom are the very nutters you complain about.
