Jerry
It's Memorial Day weekend here and the cable TVs are showing war movies. I got to see Stanley Kubrick's PATHS OF GLORY for the first time in 40 years. What a treasure and work of art it is. I watched it thinking about young Jack Kipling, Joyce Kilmer, Ruperte Brooke and others -- as the soldiers charged the ANT HILL in futile assaults. This time I noticed that the language was English but that's not the way we talk. It must have been translated from French and the director chose the stilted phrases in an effort to simulate French idioms.
