I really have to ask, just what is economically essential about nightclubs, theatres, sports etc;  that they should be released from lockdown ?    😷

Bums on seats = money in the government  club owners pocket = more taxes dodged paid = a healthy economy or that is the thinking.(or lack thereof)

But how is it essential to the life of the majority of the population ?    😷

These aren't an essential part of the economy - they don't produce goods or food etc,

But they do provide individuals with an income to spend in the economy. In big cities a lot of people are supported by working in pubs, clubs , & restaurants.

So, on that basis, we could have a basic income, where folk are paid for nothing, that then gives them buying power to keep the rest of the economy going.    😉

We've already got such a scheme - it's called Furlough !

Furlough is paid by the taxpayer ,hospitality is funded by the people who want to give it their custom.
