Bring me Sunshine

You have my sympathy Davy. I’ve had it in the wrist and fingers of my right hand for the last couple of years and that’s bad enough so I can only imagine how painful and tiring it must be for those who have more of it than I do.

I was recently diagnosed as having arthritis in my right hip,my doc just gave me a few packets of painkillers to take if the pain gets too bad take them.

I assume that she meant as directed on the packet and not all in one go.

It's a bugger, this getting old lark.

As for getting some sunlight, vampires see more sunlight than me at present.

It is a bugger Sid, I tried not getting old once but the wife caught me out. ;)

It’s noticeable that the condition gets worse in winter, but I’ve always attributed that to the cold. If it is related to a shortage of sunshine produced vitamin D then that would make sense and taking some supplements would be an easy solution but if that’s the case, why haven’t the doctors I’ve seen suggested this for me?

What we have found with arthritis is that it can be aggravated by dry spells or cold damp spells & it moves around your body at times. It can also be tiring in certain places but maybe that is because of the extra effort you have to put in when doing the most basic of tasks. I started with it in my hands when i was in my early 20s ,it can be painful but at least you know you are still alive.

Early twenties that is early for something like this. Mine only started a couple of years ago and at first I thought it was some kind of repetitive strain thing caused by picking up bricks while building my garage and extension. It’s got to be an age thing really, but all those bricks probably didn’t help.

With me, it’s not just the joint pain but I keep getting sudden pain that shoots across my palm and right up the inside of my forearm. People were telling me it was typical symptoms of carpal tunnel and that a small operation could put right but when they tested me at Whiston they were quite certain it wasn’t this and that I’d need to see another specialist. At the moment I can put up with this rather than put more load on the NHS but it has to get sorted because Mr Greens fed up at me whinging about it.

I know that feeling well Bill only mine seems to be in the shoulders at times making even taking a jumper off something of a ouch fest with my biceps twinging.

I always put my aches down to bowling during the summer. The first few games would leave me lurching around like quasimodo for a day or two.

It's the time to get gadgets to help you out or better still let someone else do the task. We find though that the worst thing you can do with arthritis is give in to it ,keeping as active as possible is the best policy. We prefer to go upstairs on all fours than use the stairlift which is handy for transporting the suit cases.

Wow Davy sorry to hear that you’re suffering far worse with it than me.

I felt hard done by having to hold one of those (what do call it things that have beer in) at the pub with my left hand.

Take you’re point about keeping things mobile, I do just the same. I had a friend some years back who after suffering polio could hardly use his hands. The only bits that worked was the two fingers that he used to hold his cigarette and the doctors said that if it wasn’t for his smoking, his hands would be completely useless.

Nothing to do with arthritis Davy but my daily walk only takes me to the end of the road and back, probably less than half a mile but by the time I get back my calves are tightening, and I have to make a real effort to appear to be walking normally. I’m just not fit these days probably due to too much time sitting on my bum here in front of the PC but at least I’m doing my best to keep away from people. Hopefully when this is all over, I’m going to have to start doing a lot more to keep all my bits working.

Got my car booked in tomorrow for new rear shocks. Their small waiting room is out of bounds these days so I’ll end up with a couple of hours to kill walking round Sandbach if the weather holds.

Well the car’s fixed and I did nearly four hour of walking round the Sandbach countryside so I don’t need to go for another walk for about a month now.

Back on the far UV light thing and how it could wipe out covid and all other bugs, after a lot of digging it seems that while they can be produced now, it’s going to be several years before the prices drop to the point where they're affordable to the public which is a great shame given what we have at the moment. It will happen though, I’d stake my life on this and when it does, it will be a monumental event that will eradicate all the various virus and bugs that kill millions each year.

I think after a certain age GP's just humour you and fill you up with pills so you feel like your getting better and won't bother them anytime soon.......

So from my first visit to 5 years later  and still pill popping and ailing.... and only get a 12 monthly review .which this year was a 4 minute phone "consultation" (for want of a better word 🙄)

Bloomin heck it’s getting all a bit gloom and doom on this thread.

At least we’ve mostly all been done now but spare a thought for poor Mrs Green who probably won’t get her jab until mid-summer when they do the under thirties group.

I’ve just got back from the dentist where I hope I gave a good impression. I had to wait 15 minutes while they cleaned the room but when I got in, there in the corner was a shiny new UV steriliser unit. They said it was brilliant and I started banging on about what I’ve said here and put them into an extreme state of boredom.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed the advert that keeps appearing on the Sky news channel for their sponsors Qatar Air that shows the robotic UV sterilizer wandering about the airport lounge and onboard their planes. Quite cool but without them saying what it’s all about it makes it appear that Qatar Air is the preferred choice for robots like R2D2.
