I remember as a kid the local ones that were twenty odd foot high and burned for two days. Nowt to do with the council just the local gang of kids piling any old wood,easily removed garden gates, old sofas and the like to see who could build the biggest bonfire usually on a bit of waste ground, very rare they got out of control..... no sofas dumped in back entries either, unlike today.
