observer
Anyone know the details of the new car tax rip off? Errm, big cars, 4X4s - OK; BUT I'm hearing they're having a go at "older" cars? And who generally owns the "older cars"? The folk who can't afford a bran new one - so is it yet another tax on the poor?

Peter T
Mine has gone down to ZERO!! (i sold the car in January and use Shank's pony now - it's free!!) ner, ner, ne ner ner.
observer
Well, it seems the poorest are going to have to learn, once again, "to know their place" and use shankie's pony too; as second hand cars will be costing more. Unsual for this Government to come up with a system based on wealth rather than need or ability.
asperity
Not so much "unusual" as "par for the course". Labour governments have always let themselves and their clients down. Good ideas but lousy performance because they become as greedy as their clients. Human nature.
observer
Seems their "heartland" vote is falling away; assuming the poorest still vote. Could it be that, they are deliberately kept poor in order to remain New Labour "core" voters?!
safeway56
Almost everybody pays lip service to something called *global warming* It's the new religion...to deny it is akin to heresy. It means that politicians have a free ride to impose whatever financial penalties they see fit in it's name. I suggest you read Nigel Lawson's view on this, he is one of the very few lone voices who call this humbug for what it is.
observer
I've listened to Nigel, and agree with him - like watching his daughter too!
Bazj
Of course global warming is a load of tosh. It is something invented by the west as an extra tax source. You certainly don't hear China worrying about it do you? and they have lots of scientists to check if its real!!
