Evil Sid
will give it a look this week. have to go into town to sort out some financial hiccups. Did you know that banks can declare an account dormant after it has not been used for a certain period of time? I didn't. Have a few bob squirreled away against the time that the reaper calls in a high interest account. Never put any more money in as i would lose interest for that month, never take money out as i do not need it. It has just sat there accumulating interest. Now the bank says that it will be declared dormant, which i assume means that it will no longer get interest on the money in it and i will have to jump through hoops to get it reactivated. Wonder if that amounts to robbery on their part.......🤔

Evil Sid
Well been to town but did not get much chance to see much. Partly due to having to try and explain to a bank why Mrs sid cold not supply the proof of identity they needed and partly due to the low morning sun reflecting off the damp footpaths and road surfaces making it almost impossible to see anything at all. The new development looks nice but how much of the town center has been regenerated which was the whole point of the the build?
Confused52
Milky, the point of the new build was to build new offices which got rid of any rental charges for the council by getting restaurants to pay the interest for the loans as part of their rent payments. The cinema is also paying enough to cover the interest on the loans for the new car park which is intended to provide space for council workers during the day close to their new offices. Finally the new market is to provide a food court to allow the council employees to get low cost food during their lunch times. Any benefit for the public from these arrangements is what is known as upside benefits. The public are not the main concern of this council. Now you knew all that didn't you?

An interesting exercise to try is to ask Russ Bowden directly the cost of the new offices and the original budget. Maybe Gary could try it. Perfectly straightforward question with a perfectly straightforward answer obviously and one to which the people paying for it are perfectly entitled. I've tried it myself a few times. The council 'spokesman' used to say 'there isn't one' because there's only one cost for the whole project, which is an obvious lie. Now Russ says he can't say what it is because if he does, it will breach commercial confidentiality on the rest of the project, which is utter bullshit. If I spend £30 on shopping, I can tell you what the bananas cost without you knowing the price of the beans. And don't even bother to ask about the business case for the offices or the alternatives considered. Where it gets really interesting is what Russ does after he's pushed. First he'll have some sort of rant based on the idea that he's above this sort of thing and you don't understand and it's all the Tories' fault anyway, then he'll vanish. Works every time. Doesn't even have to be about the costs of his new offices. Works with Redwood, the council's accounts, Steven Broomhead's directorship of Together Energy, Charlotte Nichol's home address, the switching on of Christmas lights. He never wavers from his MO. Observer II
Nice to see they've tried to keep the architectural style in keeping with the previous town scape; makes a change from the usual lego boxes.
Sparky71
Went to the pictures the other day. Parked on the new multi storey, 50 yards walk to Cineworld. got my car park ticket validated in the pictures when leaving, so free parking. Very impressed.
Bill
I wonder how long it will be before they stop doing that? I know it's not that expensive but I always get my ticked validated for free in the market and most times we end up spending money in there so I guess it's working well for the market traders. Question though. The sign in the new car park says the place gets locked at 10 pm which seems a bit early if your going for a night out. ????? Evil Sid
new EU timings. They have increased the hours in a day to twenty seven and reduced the actual number of minutes in those hours to 53. this means that for a forty hour working week you work less but of course you do get shorter lunch breaks..🤫

Sparky71
Some of our shops need to get their act together. My daughter is a keen runner and needed some new running shoes. All her fellow running club members get theirs from a specialist shop in St Helens, where they have a running machine that analyses the way you run and the owner matches specific shoes to the customer. She ended up paying over £100 for a pair. I asked if she had been in the running shop in Golden Square. She said she had but the assistants didn't have much idea about their stock. I noticed today that it is closing down. There's a moral there.
