Latchford Locks
On 7/11/2019 at 5:59 PM, Observer II said: Just a slight correction Stall; the reason there are US crosses in Normandy and elsewhere is because of Pearl Harbour; and the reason the US fought in Europe was because Germany declared war on the US on 8th Dec 1941 (big mistake ). The US was probably the only economic beneficery from WW2; the UK was bankrupt and had to pay back every penny of lend lease. And remember we were left out of the post war Marshall Aid plan.. Denied help with A Bomb production. And told to "Get out of Suez(1956) or be bankrupted by massive US financial powers" Plus Joe Kennedy US ambassador in London(1940) strongly suggested withholding all War Aid as we were already a beaten nation and Herr Hitler would be in London in six months.Thankfully Roosevelt thought differently and replaced the IRA sympathiser at the first opportunity. These facts are conveniently brushed under the carpet of history.

And they were fighting their allies of 1939.. with whom they had invaded Poland and shared the country into two parts.

Prior to which, they had sought an alliance with Poland, France and UK; to guarantee Poland's borders in the event of German expansion - the Poles refused. How they expected the Allies to protect them from the other side of Germany I don't know ! The saying in Poland at the time was - if we're invaded by Germany we lose our freedom, if we're invaded by Russia, we lose our soul ! - so Devil and deep blue sea. However, in June 1941 that all changed and Churchill was delighted, he was even more delighted in December 1941. Russia would absorb 75% of Germany's military capacity, while the US would supply the Allies with a huge military and industrial capacity. Don't think you'll find much honour in international politics - just hard nosed pragmatism.
