Stallard12
Just watched 'The Battle of Britain' movie for the twentyth time (?). I do believe that this movie should be required viewing in every school and mandatory watching by every resident applicant, with the following question, could you and would you perform to this level if required? Methinks that there would be a multitude of objections, none of which would be associated with valor.
asperity
It wouldn't be permitted viewing in schools because it gives a distorted view of history in that it glorifies the racist, bigotted empire building British imperialists selfishly trying to prevent the German attempt to build a peaceful European trading bloc which would bring benefit to all European nations. Let's call it the EU. (Don't mention the holocaust, I'm sure if we ignore it long enough it will be forgotten in time.)
P J
perhaps they could show the film 'Hurricane' whilst they are at it, acknowledging the great debt of gratitude we owe to the Polish airmen who saved our bacon.
Stallard12
I agree that there contribution deserves recognition, however my point was to demonstrate to British youngsters and prospective Britains what they should try to live up to. On that basis, maybe Hurricane should be shown in Poland too.
P J
They could perhaps then show Apocolypse Now , in US schools but then again the less American school kids see of guns and killing the better eh Stallard?
Observer II
Think we're way past the point of no return now Tex; historical revisionism is now the norm; and encouraged by the BBC.
