observer
These were findings based on new evidence being researched; not new thinking based on political revisionism.

willywonka
Happy enough with that Obs, just glad to see that, in principle at least, you're not wholly against the idea of RE-WRITING HISTORY IN SEARCH OF THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH! It's not always peeceegawwwnmaaad y'know.
observer
That was the point of the other topic - evidence based not politically based. (wipes sweat from brow)
MadMum
I too was brought up believing Hollywoods version of history in general. Captain |Bligh did wrong when he was keeping water from the men, but he was under orders to take breadfruit plants to feed the slaves. He was not a mean B as portrayed. He became governor of New South Wales and sorted out the red coats who were determined to grab everything for themselves. He was fair and compassionate as well as being a brilliant navigator. I recently visited the Museum of Garden History next to Lambeth palace. It is in a deconsecrated church, William Bligh was buried there it was an unexpected bonus. :angelwings: To the man who yawned on these posts wake up and learn something, we are in a mess because we don't learn from what has gone befoe
