Still bemused by the French lack of action on this matter: these "illegal" migrants can apply for asylum in France, if they fail or if they won't apply for asylum, then surely they can be deported ?

the migrants want to get to the UK because they know that even if they are denied asylum, the system is so broken that they stand little chance of ever being deported back whence they came

True Baz, they've admitted that they can't identify all of the over 2million EU migrants in the UK, let alone illegals that aren't on the Gov radar - what a  complete shambles.

Perhaps our local politicians could tell us what the Council has/is spending on hospitality for immigrants ?   Seems, nationally, we need to build over 4,000 houses and find over 10,000 school places to accommodate the Syrian "refugees".

Well they're in the process of closing "the jungle", and as posters predicted on this topic, the rats have dispersed throughout northern France. Watching it on the news, one can't fathom out the depths of incompetence by the French authorities: Police were keeping a crowd of young men away from the camp, but weren't arresting and detaining them. So they were being left to roam around France, no doubt to build another jungle. Yer just couldn't make it up.

... and now, French President Hollande; is calling for the UK "to take it's share" of children from the camp. Perhaps if he'd forced them into being processed in France, to either seek asylum in France or be deported, there wouldn't have been a "jungle" in the first place.
