observer
Seems the Office of fair trading have stumbled on the fact that large building contractors are operating pricing cartels when bidding for public contracts - so much for market competion! Paul Kennedy
Nice if they had a chat to oil companies and the oil producers...they are the world's biggest cartel...and untouchable.

Dizzy
Over 240 'alleged' cases are being looked into where companies have worked to over-inflate prices during tender processes. They are in both the private and public sector and include building contracts for schools, universities and hospitals
little fella
Is it not like that over the whole comtract industry, any work done in a public sector building is charged at a vastly inflated price. A contractor told me he had to charge it at that rate because he would not get paid for 90 days and three requests;if he was lucky. Also he had to carry a ?1m insurance which was not needed on private jobs. No doubt that on these big PFI projects there needs to be a lot of discussion and meetings, and a warmer climate makes for a better working atmosphere. Paul Kennedy
An interesting piece in today's Times, implicating local authorities and public bodies in the activity: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/construction_and_property/article3768305.ece
