observer Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Seems a Commons select Committee are recommending a 50% cut in the number of geriatrics in the House of Lords - down to 400. And while they're at it; why not a 50% cut in the number of MPs; thus saving us ?40million a year?! Quote
asperity Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Why not 75% of MPs? After all they're only nodding through the legislation that the bureaucrats in Brussels are producing and creating hot air and waffle. Quote
Davy51 Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 No doubt the Lords in question will be leaping to gold plated severance & pension deals! Quote
Paul Kennedy Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 No, they are not eligible for either severence or pensions...in fact unlike MPs they do not receive a salary unless they have a ministerial/official/judicial role. http://www.parliament.uk/about_lords/holallowances/hol_explanatory07.cfm Quote
observer Posted March 20, 2008 Author Report Posted March 20, 2008 Think perhaps their "gold plated pensions" are in the sale of their well kitted out second homes?! Quote
Davy51 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 But don't they get generous attendance allowances, surely they would expect some compen sation for losing that. Quote
Paul Kennedy Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Well some might expect it...but they won't get it. Quote
