observer
- on immigrants! Well we know how this Government "gets tough" EG: "on the causes of crime" etc; but the latest announcement by Jaqui Smith, about charging immigrants to support their demand for public services and require they can speak English is an act of whimpish desperation. BUT better still, LIMIT the numbers AT SOURCE; by requiring all applications to visit/work in the UK, to be made at our overseas Embassies - thus no one enters the UK without a valid, time limited, visa, and without having the required skills or with a criminal record (that's providing they don't lose the CD Rom!). KeithR
The Tories policy is actually to 'reduce' the numbers coming in. 'Reduce by how many' is the question they are not answering.
observer
The solution is: to exercise an absolute on ban entry to all immigrants that don't have a visa issued by a British Embassy in the country of origin; and to begin the deportation of all failed assylum seekers, illegal immigrants (if they can find them!) and foreign nationals within our prisons. observer
Just for interest: the Home Office are supposed to be "consulting" the public on this issue - anyone been contacted yet?

This would work to help in knowing where they actually come from in the first place. There have been a number of cases over the years where they couln't deport an immigrant because they had no paperwork and refused to say where they come from. (not that they actually would deport them of course.... but it is a start!!)
observer
Easy answer to those that won't say where they are from: just pick the most poverty stricken and repressive regime in the estimated region of origin, and tell them they are going there; and then wait for them to beg you to send them to their real home of origin!
