algy
Why are the council having perfectly good lamp posts remove and replaced with new ones when there was nothing wrong with the old ones, is this happening in other areas of the town. And I don't accept the old 'chestnut' of light pollution as the ones we have are no different than the ones they have replaced and they could have just replaced the light head fitting if that was the case. Dizzy
I remember reading about it on the news pages ages ago. £25 million does seem like a lot of money to be spending on replacing street lights when there are so many other things that need doing. Here's the councils two links about it all Algy .....https://www.warrington.gov.uk/streetlightingand the work schedule maps etc...https://www.warrington.gov.uk/info/200972/street_light_replacement_project/1620/street_lighting_project_work_schedule
Grappenhall Guy
Algy it just another demonstration of how Warrington borough council can waste our council tax,I wonder what happened to the old lamp posts, probably given to a scrap dealer who then went on to sell them for loads of money. Maybe me being a bit cynical, but I would like to know where they ended up.

Freeborn John
No complaints from me, forty year old concrete post with yellow lighting gone, taller, brighter, white light in, much better.
Grappenhall Guy
Yes John I agree with you on that point of view,I was referring to the lamp posts in Grappenhall village.
Dizzy
Weren't the supposed to be putting replicas of the old fashioned tops on the new lamp posts in Grappenhall Village and painting them black too ? The old originals are probably in some workers garden now or for sale on ebay
Grappenhall Guy
Yes Dizzy they have put the new old light fittings on top of the new lamp posts and put some naff fittings on the posts to make them look like the old ones, why on earth they couldn't put the new light fittings on top of the old posts.Somebody on the council payroll making these decisions, priceless!
