observer Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 Seems BT has secured footy rights for a record sum. Just for interest how, or rather from whom will they get the money to pay it? Quote
P J Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 perhaps they hope to sell subscriptions to Infinity TV and broadband services and are using the footy games as advertising/enticement to do so? http://sport.bt.com/pages/sport/ Quote
observer Posted November 11, 2013 Author Report Posted November 11, 2013 So phone and broadband charges won't be going up then?! Quote
P J Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 So phone and broadband charges won't be going up then?! Now where on earth did I say they wouldn't, and how the hell would I be privy to Bt charging projections? It says on their website that the sport is free if you have their phone and broadband. You don't have to sign up for football coverage with anyone it is optional unlike gas , electric and water which is a different matter altogether. Quote
observer Posted November 11, 2013 Author Report Posted November 11, 2013 Presumably, BT will have to recoup the money from somewhere? If not from those who actually want to watch football, can we assume it will be from the rest of their customers? Quote
P J Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 Presume what you like, it wont make you right. I am pretty sure that people would change their phone and broadband to another, less expensive supplier if they did what you suggest which would be counter productive. I am sure they did the sums and will recoup money long term in advertising revenue as well as subscriptions. You don't have to use BT. Quote
Bazj Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 a lot of people don't bother to switch though; that is evident by the number of people who don't switch gas and electric suppliers! Quote
harry hayes Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 I already have BT sports. I would guess the modest price I now pay will be vastly increased, which seems the common sense way to do it. I also have Sky sports, which is much dearer. I would expect their price to come down, but there again I also believe in Father Christmas. Happy days Quote
observer Posted November 12, 2013 Author Report Posted November 12, 2013 Well it did start out as a question - guess we'll have to wait for the answer. Quote
asperity Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Advertising revenue I should imagine. Plus football fans taking out subscriptions. Quote
