Immigration backlog -

I completely agree algy, and as he himself admits he has nothing to add, so you have to ask why?, it would be different if their was something new!

and you have nothing new to say to counter Obs posts.... except ranting and raving about how great the EU is and how great the immigrants are. If we didn't have to pay for all the baggage that comes with these people, there would be no need for Obs to give up part of his pension.... the millions saved would cover the costs involved!

so why do you bother?

Australia now have the right idea..... and this time it isn't a hoax!!

Australia To Deport Asylum Seekers To Papua New Guinea Any asylum seekers who arrive in Australia by boat will have "no chance" of settling there, the country's prime minister warns.

Cos sorting out problems isn't their way Baz; deny there's a problem or legalise the problem; and it goes away; then when the car crash happens, they'll apologise and say we have to learn lessons from it. Some good comments under that article Baz, perhaps Kije can have a go at them?!

Good for Aus but wasn't  Papua New Guinea part of Australia in some way and didn't Aus grant independence to the island in the 70's ?   I might be getting confused with somewhere else though.

Are the people of Papua NG happy to accept the asylum seekers or do they have no say in it ?

Do they still have cannibals there....or is that the plan EEK

We must have zero welfare on offer to migrants and exactly the same to Brits who don't want to or won't work. No benefits for neck and face tattoos either. Those people render themselves almost unemployable. I am not too keen on paying tax, so others don't have to work. As for needing more immigrants to pay for pension provision - are these magic immigrants who don't have children or grow old?

Not exactly 'Utopia' is it.

Recent article from 'the Guardian'

The Australian government’s controversial deal with Papua New Guinea will see asylum seekers sent to a country struggling to cope with spiralling rates of violence, particularly against women.

The Australian government currently urges travellers to PNG to "excercise extreme caution" due to high levels of serious crime and dangers of violent clashes, ethnic disputes, carjacking, and endemic levels of cholera, high levels of HIV, and malaria.

Papua New Guinea has recently been labelled one of the worst places for gender-based violence in the world. One hospital in the country’s second biggest city, Lae, recently reported that half of all sexual violence victims they saw were children.

Unicef described Papua New Guinea’s children as among the most vulnerable in the world, due to extremely high rates of violence, customary child marriage, exploitation, police brutality and detention in adult jails for young offenders.

The country currently allows five forms of execution: hanging, lethal injection, medical death by deprivation of oxygen, firing squad and electrocution. Homosexuality is illegal and adultery is a criminal offence.

PNG law officials recently repealed the Sorcery Act of 1971 which, among other things, made killing a person accused of sorcery potentially defensible. Recent news attention has focused on a spate of killings related to accusations of witchcraft.

Papua New Guinea is – like Australia – a signatory to the UN refugee convention. However when it signed in 1986 it made seven reservations.

The UNHCR noted that amid the high levels of crime and violence in PNG, “persons of concern, unlike most expatriates in PNG, cannot afford additional security. Non-Melanesian asylum seekers and refugees in PNG are particularly vulnerable to xenophobia and racism amongst the local population.”

The country is extremely rural. Around 80% of the 7 million people in PNG live in rural areas, and many are without basic services, infrastructure and education. The medical system is extremely weak.

PNG is currently experiencing a mining boom, but the unequal distribution of wealth has fuelled jealous violence, according to NGOs on the ground.

The prime minister, Peter O’Neill, who has vowed to clean up corruption and political instability in the country, earlier this year faced an attempted coup by a military loyal to former prime minister Michael Somare.

In a recent outbreak of violence, a group of defence force soldiers attacked a medical school.

Part of the arrangement with the Australian government is an increase in aid to PNG, addressing health and hospitals, universities, and law and order.

Makes the UK's attitude to illegal immigrants positively welcoming by comparison!

Seems our figures on net immigration are "a best guess" according to a cttee of MPs, and based on a survey NOT on any system for counting immigration into the UK and emigration out.  "Not fit for purpose" was the phrase used, just what Gov system is "fit for purpose" nowadays?

got to love the line

"Labour urged the government to do more to address the potential impact on infrastructure and public services."

They started the flood with their bloody open door immigration policy; and now they have the nerve to have a go at this government???

Typical Ed the Bandwagon merchant and his bunch of wannabe millionaires

Just put the shutters up and keep them out....simples let the EU moan; won't be long before the whole lot collapses anyway

I was reading an article this weekend regarding a Hungarian employment agency offering thousands of jobs in Britain to Hungarians who were willing to come over here & who would agree to an upfront charge by the agency of about £ 700 to cover costs. The agency was also canvassing firms over here to tempt them to take the Hungarians at a lower wage outlay to cover unskilled work.

How can the UK hope to place any British citizens in lower end work when ,due to our minimum wage rates, they are being undercut by itinerant workers ? How can this happen with EU employment law or is our minimum wage not covered by it.

Watching "The One Show" from Tyneside last night and it appears that companies are openly placing job advertisments in Polish etc in local newspapers, surely that must be contravening equal opportunity laws,

(Oops! are we going to be in trouble with 'plod's' censorship department again. perhaps we could have a list of unacceptable phrases so we know how far we can go in expressing our opinions, eg. a 'traveller' may only be described as a 'Gypsy' when he is a 'Gypsy' that is actually travelling along the highway' a group of people of Irish nationality towing caravans behind transit vans may also be called 'travellers' if they are also travelling along the highway, however when that group of people stop travelling they should be refered to as 'caravaners' or 'holiday makers' and not refered to as 'Gypsies')

You've been on here long enough Algy to know what's ok and so have others. In fact I'm a little surprised by your sarcasm.

Gary has also explained why the 'P' word is not allowed. You could take it up with the real police thought if you like

Love the animation though, that really made me laugh.

I would have thought that wasn't allowed too Algy, but then again Polish and other foreign bods living here could complain that most job adverts are in English so is that contravening equal opportunities too. Weird old world and maybe our youngsters should all be taught polish etc as standard at school instead of French, German and Spanish.
