"Had she been as great as she is held to be, we would not be in the terrible mess we are now in, deindustrialised, drugged en masse by dope and antidepressants, demoralised, de-Christianised, bankrupted by deregulated spivs, our criminal justice system an even bigger joke than our State schools and 80 per cent of our laws made abroad".

Not sure which right winger said this  but it is not a country I recognise today.

Anyone who is drugged by dope and anti-depressants, demoralised, etc., is in that state through their own inadequacies.

After reading this thread so far, it seems to me that Maggie's critics have one thing in common. They are failures in life, inadequates who like to be able to find someone to blame because they think they have had a raw deal in life.

You get out of life what you put into it and the trouble these days is that too few people are prepared to put anything into it. We live in an age when too many  people expect something for nothing,

These are the people who are now rejoicing at Margaret Thatcher's death. People who have taken advantage of successive governments (of right and left) who have been afraid to tackle the layabouts, the thugs and the militants because they are frightened of losing votes. In my view, even Maggie was not tough enough on the layabouts. That was her biggest failing - she was too soft.

Correct John, and aside from pots of money in overtime, the police were allegedly helped by special forces, no ID numbers on their uniforms of course. It was war against her own people, the only difference with Assad, being she didn't need live bullets. Egbert, you'll notice that Maggie's funeral costs are being paid largely by the tax-payer, so she clearly wasn't beyond State Aid in the end!

Egbert, Maggie created the layabouts by putting people on invalidity benefit and off the dole ass it was then, to massage the job figures, And if you are calling me a failure, Im doing ok thank you very much. One thing Maggie's fans have in common is they are blind!!!!!

Thankfully Harry, I saw from the beginning what she was, I was never taken in, and never saw her through rose tinted glasses as her supporters undoubtedly do, and squandering 11 million on her funeral is just sick, for as seen on here, she had had and has her detractors. probably more detractors in the UK than supporters, who now have to watch their money being spent on a figure of hate. By all means bury the Woman, but no state founding for it. She never ever won the popular vote in the Uk.

10 million is small change considering the 75 billion her EU rebate has clawed back for the exchequer.

Popular vote ?She won 43..9% of the vote 1979,42.4% in 1983and 42.2% in 1987- landslide results of which contemporary politicians can only dream.

The BBC have been running historical coverage of the Thatcher years on parliament channel (81). It's been quite illuminating, not sure if you would enjoy watching as it explodes quite a few of the myths and black truths  that are circulating.

As I said she never won the popular vote, you could try Tony Blair, he got in and around that number himself, and he managed it without becoming such a figure of hate of the MAJORITY of people that didn't vote for him. Why don't you put some of these black truths on here so we can take a look, and before you call me some Blair-rite, I would be equally disgusted if they spent the money on a funeral for him, but to be fair on him, people disliked him, but few hate him as they do Maggie.

These same luvvies that are baulking at the cost of her funeral are the same idiots that don't bat an eyelid when we waste tens of millions on allowing terrorists to play the human rights charter and the same people that supposedly abhor the death penalty but would prefer to keep murderous scum in prison at our expense for the rest of their miserable lives....

Some need to get their priorities right....

When Bliar goes I would have no problem with him getting the same kind of funeral; the man won 3 elections even though personally I didn't afgree with one ounce of what he stood for.... just get over it... Maggie was one of our most successful and popular (by share of the votes) prime ministers in the last 100 years and was also a world statesman and as such deserves a fitting send off

Think your abusing the term "luvvie" Baz;  the luvvies, Bliar and his champagne socialists will be attending the funeral in the hope they get the same treatment. imo  none of them deserve it and none of them should get it incl Thatcher. For what it's worth, the latest poll - For the public expenditure on the funeral - 25%; Against - 60% - which probably accords with the general sentiment on this matter.

When you are lying in your bed, unable to sleep and the temperature in the room suddenly drops below zero and you hear a moaning and clanking of chains be afraid, be very afraid, its the ghost of Thatcher passed come to haunt you!

If I can put up with my deceased wife haunting me, the evil one won't be a problem.
