Lt Kije
Why Baz, if other European Countries and make their benefit system so it does not pay for people in other Countries why can't the UK, ? It is down to our government. The EU set rules for all of Europe, not as you think to annoy the UK.
asperity
It's down to the way we gold plate any EU directives to end up for the worst outcome for ourselves. The British sense of "fair play" (shared by many of our Commonwealth partners) isn't shared by most of our fellow EUSSR members. We do not belong in this "club". Lt Kije
Half agree with you Asp, but it is nothing to do with fair play, just plain incomitance and being inept
asperity
NOTHING to do with fair play? So you think the French and Italians "play cricket" when it comes to international relations? Naiive Lt Kije, so naiive.
Lt Kije
As far as I know the French and Italians have never played cricket Who's the fool???? We pay out of a sense of fair play Asp, and you call me naive, We pay because our government are inept
observer
We pay cos our Governments (or perhaps the Mandarins) always make a literal translation of Treaties. British OAPs are entitled to claim their State Pension, anywhere in the world and at the rate they would receive in the UK. They are also apparently entitled to heating allowance - no way would the Spanish be paying them anything, and certainly not at the same rate. If they want medical treatment, they have to pay; which officially is the position of our NHS, but tends not to be enforced. As for receiving benefits in Bulgaria for example, no way could the Bulgarians pay out at UK rates, that's why they're all gagging to get over here.
