asperity
Socialism in action:
observer
Slightly off centre Asp; having kids going round begging door to door couldn't be contrued as socialist. Socialists would tax us in candy and distribute it to the kids with their child allowance!
Cleopatra
No they wouldn't.
asperity
Are you really that thick Obs!!! It is a representation of the way that Socialism works - take from those that have worked for something to give the fruits of their labour to those that couldn't be bothered to work for themselves.
Cleopatra
Yes he is.
observer
That's your take on it - no surprise there.
Lt Kije
But Capitalism is just betting on the horses
Evil Sid
Capitalism is based on the exploitation of one human being by another human being whilst socialism is just the opposite.
observer
Almost correct Sid: Capitalism is the exploitation of the many by the few, whilst Socialism is the opposite!
asperity
Socialism as practised by socialists is actually the exploitation of the many by the few under the guise of being egalitarian.
observer
How do you arrive at that one Asp, when a progressive tax system takes or should take more from those who have more, which by definition means the fewest pay the mostest. fugtifino
Socialism as practised by socialists is actually the exploitation of the many by the few under the guise of being egalitarian. Is there anywhere on the face of the earth that you could point to as an example of this, or is it another one from your Great Big Ladybird Book of What I Reckon? Great thread, thanks for starting it.
Evil Sid
Obs I got my definition from The Worlds Best Russian Jokes book but it sound reasonable enough
Bazj
Capitalism is based on the exploitation of one human being by another human being
asperity
Fugtifino, Nazi Germany, the USSR, China, North Korea. All places practising "socialism" where the great mass of people are or were ruled by an elite who exploited them. Give me capitalism every day, at least with a capitalist system you have a chance of getting rid of exploiters without the danger of being thrown into a concentration camp. Lt Kije
I think your getting mixed up between capitalism and democracy Asp
observer
Think he's getting mixed up betweem communism/socialism and State capitalism/totalitarianism. EG: China is no more "socialist" than the USA now, and Mau is no doubt spinning in his grave. The nearest States have got to socialism would be in Scandanavia. asperity
So USSR doesn't stand for Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics and the Nazis weren't the National SOCIALIST Party then? Socialism has never worked because it is against human nature. You will always get people rising to the top who then go on to exploit the masses. It might be a wonderful concept, but completely unworkable in reality.
observer
So we do have "people at the top", "exploiting the masses" Asp? So, let's tax them, redistribute the money, get the masses spending, and get the economy back on the road - sorted!
Lt Kije
Adolf used the word socialist in the name of his party Asp, but it was in name only
asperity
You really do have a simplistic view of the world Obs. If only it were that simple it would have been done long ago.
observer
It's been tried many times, they call them "revolutions"; but one elite tends to get replaced by another elite. What's not been tried properly, is a constitutionally built in progressive tax system that whoever the elite are, they pay proportionally to the general wellbeing of all.
Lt Kije
Asp, your view on socialism is very simplistic, if you think Adolf was one.
asperity
As I said Obs, if it was that simple we would have such a system already. Unfortunately for your theory it doesn't appear to have popular support.
observer
That's precisely why it's never happened, we have 21st century technologies, but socially we're still thinking like cavemen!
