There are 5 enemy ships on the horizon.” The captain tells him,” Get my red coat and prepare the ship for battle!” The first mate runs without question to get the captains red coat and then prepares the ships crew for battle. After their victory he he asks the captain why he wanted his red coat. The captain tells the him “If I were shot you would not be able to tell I’m bleeding and so you would keep on fighting.” The first mate thought this was a great idea. The next day he again went to the captains cabin and shouted “Sir! Sir! There are twenty enemy ships on the horizon!” The captain looked stunned.
