Choice?

Do the S/markets really provide us with a choice? Interesting prog showed that apples for example were being imported from N/Zealand and Chile, when there were tastier apples being produced in UK orchards having to go for pig feed or cider making. Are they supposed to have a Union Jack label on all British sourced goods? :?

Supermarkets CON the gullible into buying what they don't want and the offers are not exactly that as the prices have been put up in previous weeks so that they can do it.

Basically all they offer is convenience. Everything under one roof. (Jack of all trades and master of none."

the primary aim is to get tastier produce.

It won't happen as long as there are supermarkets. They need the chemicals in the food to prolong the shelf life. So the only answer to tastier food is to grow your own, or visit a local farm.

Where do the local farm shops grow the bananas they sell?

Grow your own is great though Peter.

What we need is more local allotments and people with accessible fruit trees and the like so we can all go 'scrumping' :D

As kids we'd spend hours up the neighbours pear tree eating the crunchy pears. They were absolutely delicious but a few sore tums some days after eating so many. We tried the apple trees too but were a bit shocked to find they were baking type apples... gurgle

Pears just never seem to taste like the used to 'in the old days'

If it was Polish people, could it be they are better at making sauces, or they were the only people that turned up for the inteviews :?:

Nope.... probably because they would do the job for the minimum wage possible which is why wages have reduced ever since Bliar allowed his open door immigration policy. Skilled tradesmen in London are priced out of work by skilled foreign labour coming in and doing the jobs for less than the rates agreed and thus increasing the skilled labour rates and increasing UK skilled unemployment.

You have a trip around any South East site these days (or any large construction site in the country for that matter) and see how many foreign trademsmen and labourers there are. They are not all there because we don't have any of our own Kije!

IUf you get a quote Baz, from two skilled tradesman who could do the job, would you save money and go with the cheaper one or would you pay more :?:

I would not employ a foreign tradesman or even a labourer to do any kind of work for me; paid or otherwise.

But of course, when the foreign chap comes over and can do work on power stations cheaper than you can Kije, that is when you will no doubt take notice!
