apps

Will anyone join me in a campaign to ban the word "apps" before it is too late?

And before any wit gets any ideas, I will not accept apps to join the campaign!

I would join you, but I think you have left it far too late! The word is already repeated incessantly on TV and no doubt by everyone with these posh phones that use the things. A losing battle I think!

Yes definately too late Egbert and with most kids using them you will never rid the world of the annoying little shortened 'in word'....

Just refer to them as 'applications' like I do as it really winds the kids and others up. It's just as annoying to them as the word 'App' is to me so they tend to stop mentioning them :D:wink:

Yes, I suppose you are all right. I have left it too late. But, Silver Lady, please be assured there is no such thing as a "posh" phone.

Yes there is Egbert... a posh phone is one that does everything else apart from being a phone ie it has camera, email, internet, microsoft applications. thousands of other useless applications, sat nav, music player, video, and virtually everything else that 'something else' can do. All they need to be able to do in addition is make a cup of tea/coffee, iron and maybe to have a toilet roll dispenser in them and they will be perfection

These days there seems to be a mobile "App" for just about everything and I’m wondering where it’ll all end up.

It seems to me that so many of these are totally pointless or perform a function that simply replaces a conventional remote controller. Being able to turn on your house lights from your mobile might be thought of as cool but at the serious risk of being branded a bit of a nerd. And given the number of apps are exploding exponentially we’ll no doubt soon need an app to manage all our Apps.

A recent Top Gear program featured one of the latest BMWs but the vast majority of the report centred on it’s ability to be controlled by a mobile "app" with almost nothing about the car itself. James May was like a kid with a new toy as he demonstrated how easy it was to check the tyre pressures from South Africa while the car was in his garage in London. Personally if I were on holiday in South Africa, the last thing on my mind would be my tyre pressure back home, in fact I’d leave the bloody phone behind and have a proper break.

The best one I’ve seen so far though was on this weeks edition of BBC’s Click that showed a rather expensive and somewhat bulky device that you connect to the back of your phone that via yet another App, allowed you to take a photo then print it out.

I’ll bet the people at Polaroid are turning in their graves.

Bill :)

If you have the app that searches apps for you you can probably find one that will manage your apps.

my neice has an app on her phone that now lets you make phone calls!!!
