Dizzy
..... or is it an attempt to cut down on the number of vehicles travelling that way? eg To get to Warrington College I now go through Latchford and up Kingsway instead so as to avoid the bl**dy lights at cockhedge. Infact I even go to Asda at westbrook rather than cockedge Asda as it's quicker and less stressfull
Peter T
Buy son a bike.
Dizzy
And there we have the solution to the Cockhedge traffic congestion and bloody stupid traffic light systems eh..... Dizzy buys a bike Sorry to disapoint though Peter as sons already got a bike thanks but it would probably get nicked like his last one.... and he has a 'paid for' bus pass (?21 a month) so makes his own way there and back most days. I only pick him up when he needs to get from college to work quickly or when we are going somewhere else. Enough clarification for you
Gary
I hate to think what it will be like when they implement the new traffic management system up Winwick Road outside the Collegiate! Now that could be a budget saving leaving things as they are!
Dizzy
Your right there Gary. It was mentioned on another topic a few weeks back and what they are proposing seems madness especially the idea of relocating the bus stop onto the main carriageway rather than having it in the layby where it is now. Like you say a good way to to save money is to.. NOT DO IT... but maybe they just wont have enough ???'s to do it anyway with all the cuts that have been made (here's hoping eh)
wahl
The issue seems to be that no one in WBC traffic management will admit they are wrong. WRONG with ASDA lights, WRONG with Cockhedge lights, WRONG with the lights outside New Town House. All causing unnecessary pollution, waste of fuel and traqffic ciongestion. wahl
traffic congestion ok? just fought through more delays at ASDA, Midland Way where traffic was stationary waiting for the light to turn green and nothing was moving through junction. This is very poor traffic management as the lights are not tuned into the flow of traffic.
Dizzy
Sorry Wahl... wasn't being sarcy it just made me laugh I could imagine the councils dimwits purposly calling it that so that no-one could ever find their meeting notes on the system
P J
vote out the morons who put them in. Thats the only way you will get anything done. As always its up to you
observer
There's a presumption that Councillors are prepared to challenge their experts!
P J
or a presumption that new councillors will abide underperforming officers.
wahl
You are correct Observer. Most councillors are either too lazy or just not interested so the so called experts just install wasteful pet schemes regardless of the effect. The cycle paths and Hilden island are two examples of a complete waste of money, disruption to the road network and very likely not to be used. The latest so called traffic plan merely perpetuates the current mess created by these irresponsible council officers.
observer
Presumes they know enough about a given subject to know if "Officers" are "under performing"; plus , have the gonads to, not only mention it, but do something about it. P J
Merely observing realities. Sureley you cant be suggesting that Councillors turn up for buffets, expenses and to put up their ignorant hands whenever their illustrious leader may deeem it correct? disgusted
Life generally consists of cliques, and most folk tire early of trying to change them and finish up going with the flow. Very very true Obs. As for this cock up, through there again at 3 o'clock yesterday. Just an utter disgrace, long queues both sides of the A49, and Manchester Road. Admittedly there was always queues coming from the south, but this "solution" now means there are queues constantly on 3 of the five exits, if not 4. Dizzy
Does anyone know WHEN they are usually on and when they usually off and what the reasonong behind the intermittent use is ? ...... maybe keeping them off is a cost cutting exercise to save on electric
observer
If you approach Cockedge Island from Battersby Lane intending to go round it towards Pinners Brow (A49); you'll discover that the right hand lane on the Island is hatched out, presumably not to be used. The result is a even longer tail back on the Island, when these "tempory lights" are in operation. One has to use common sense and drive through the hatched out section - but it begs the question; WHY are these trogs at the T/Hall so obsessed with reducing road space with hatched areas and cycle lanes, thus increasing the length of traffic queues? wahl
the re are certain people in wbc who believe in trying to make people walk or cycle, and who hate the motor car as a modern means of easy transport. These people are creating cycle lanes all over the town using 1.96 million pounds from the last government to paint the town roads white, red or green so long as the potholes are never filled in. they believe in congestion, in traffic jams and inconvenience as a means to drive motorists off the roads. these neanderthals have infiltrated the senior jobs in the council and the councillors are too remote from reality to do anything about the damage these people are inflicting on the town. The latest traffic "plan" still puts pedestrians and cyclists as top priority as these people do not recognise why the car is used. Until there is a change of attitude or the perpetrators are removed, Warrington will suffer from increased congestion, traffic jams and pollution all of which will be used to attempt to justify their actions. observer
But isn't that "the plan"? To add to grid lock, until we all get fed up and stop using our cars?
