See things are kicking off again in N/Ireland - sparked by the anachronistic marching season - thought they'd all voted for peace? When will they drop this stupid historical religious nonesense and move on? :?

The Orange order seem to do it just to wind up the catholics!

I mean why do they have to finish the big march they all take part in by doing their own private march through the catholic areas at 8 o'clock at night is beyond me. The cops should tell them that in future, they can finish their big march and then all get on a bus and go home.....

If the Yanks can celebrate kicking the British out of America every year, why can't Northern Ireland celebrate their famous victory?

A stupid march in memory of a stupid battle, over a stupid claim by one royal prat over another Dutch royal prat over 300 years ago - and an excuse for mindless "recreational rioting" by a minority of ignorant chavs wound up by an even smaller minority of disident nutters, wound up by some tossers in bowler hats.:twisted:

The battle of the Boyne had nothing to do with religion as in Protestant v Catholic. In fact the biggest supporter of King Billy was the then Pope.

Eire is a beautiful and sparsly populated country, if these yobs attacking police with petrol bombs in one hand and the Irish tri colour in the other love Southern Ireland so much why don't they move there? Northern Ireland because of its history is now part of the UK, as is the Falklands and many other fought over countries, whether the yobs like it or not.

Kieth: JamesII was deposed as King because of he was a Catholic. and the Protestant Establishment invited the Dutch King, husband of Jame's sister Mary, to take over in what has been dubbed "the Glorious Revolution". So yes, it was about "religion" - and has been used as an excuse for mutual emnity ever since - a mutual emnity that is fostered by these stupid parades and a segregated sectarian school system, brainwashing young minds into believing they are somehow different from each other. As for the current status of Ulster, the plebicite which gave birth to Eire, arose from a majority (over throughout the island of Ireland) in favour of independence: BUT, because within the area of Ulster, there was a protestant pro-British majority, the Government (fearing civil war), decided to impose the boundary we see today. The irony of course, is that today, within the context of the EU, the whole arrangement is now rather irrelevent!

KeithR, Is right the Pope did support king Billy, Because he was concerned that the Spanish who supported the Catholic Irish were growing stonger than himself. He wanted to stop the Spanish. Ahh the ugly smell of religion and politics :!:

These current battles are 15 year old yobs, causing trouble who have no concept of what they are doing it for other than they are yobs, its not religious, its not political ,its hooliganism that will perpetuate itself into a cause when one of these idiots get deservedly shot in the head with a rubber bullet and dies.thus creating a Martyr to continue and escilate until the peace process is over...For the sake of a tool!

they know not what they do.

They are chav yobs, some as young as 8; brought up to regard the other team as different and an excuse for hatred and violence; over here the same chav generation will operate on the basis of peer group gangs or footy fans. Young kids, so bored, so disrespectfull of any form of authority, so ignorant, so angry, so alienated and never challenged or chastised in their precious childhoods into recognising the normal limits of behaviour. Still, they do need an excuse and an objective to vent their anger, and in N/Ireland they are reminded of an excuse by the stupid sectarian marching antics of so-called adults.

Nowt wrong with marches, wether it be Union, political, Independence, civil rights or gay pride, and the majority don't end in rioting, even though the majority do upset some part of the community. But that's why we are a free society.
