observer
Labour's election slogan - what a joke. After 13 years of their PC liberal trivia, we've got the biggest wealth divide for over 40 years - and of course we know what the Tories are about, but perhaps folk are now sick of the frying pan AND the fire. Bazj
I'll still stick to the ideal that I work for my money and work to pay my taxes and the last place it should be spent on are the work shy and the terminal scroungers like single teenage mums getting council houses. First call for those who don't want to work should be charity not benefits. The ones who bang on about things not being fair are usually the ones who want something for nothing. I don't think it very fair that I should graft my ass off to have the money frittered away by Brown and his no hopers. He was waffling this morning about the public getting every penny back from the banks, but then does nothing when the banks that have been bailed out announce that they are giving bonuses to bank staff while the government is looking at cutting back Take any money the bank puts aside for bonuses and put it back in the treasury pot. Sod the bank bonuses

observer
The problem is Baz, none of the things you complain about will change that much under the Tories - hence frying pan and fire.
Bazj
But in this case Obs, the fire is being fanned by a new face whilst the frying pan is being wielded by the one eyed Scottish liar.... I'll go with the first one!

Bazj
Nice post Baz, What about the people who want to work but cannot, they need help and how would you differentiate between people who want to work and those that don't Well the ones who will take anything as a last resort to put food on the plate and to put pride into their hearts....those are the ones who want to work and the ones who should be supported. The ones who moan about getting less money working than on benefits are the ones who should be pointed in the direction of charity and have their benefits stopped. Simples! observer
The problen is Baz; aynyone with an ounce of self respect will not rely on the pittance offered by the state, but will resort to their own entreprentireul enterprise, be it the black market or much darker enterprises. asperity
Why is that a problem Obs? I would have said it was a virtue! The problem is with the ones who aren't prepared to go out and make a living for themselves but prefer to sponge off everyone else (euphemistically called "the State")
observer
It's debateable; BUT I would contend that we have a system (capitalism) in which the immoral act circumvents the current law; as ultimately it's all about the exploitation of one's fellow man. This may be as ethical as the "law of the jungle" but in a civilized society, no more ethical than any form of criminal activity.

observer
Mary, none; there has always been winners and losers; and even under "State Capitalism" their was an elite; fairness can only be based on equal opportunity of input, but the fact that that is educationally unequel is an impediment from the beginning. Bazj
Somehow Baz if your business goes bump I cannot see you picking up litter. For the minimum wage. Its easy to preach, but it's a bit different when it happens to you. how do you think I started my business in the first place Kije? I lost my job.... and picked my arse up and went and gave it a shot for myself. My business partner and I lived on practically nothing and had each others families round for tea and ate spam fritters and tins of soup and any other stuff we could rustle up for a few quid.... once we had started the limited company, we couldn't get benefits because we were directors!!! We are all classed in the same boat as the likes of the RBS directors and yheir million pound salaries. Single lads who worked with us at the company that went bust got benefits even though the dole knew they would soon be working for us once the company was sorted out.... we got bugger all; despite having wives, kids and mortgages to fund. Even my mortgage insurance wouldn't pay out because I wasn't classed as "officially unemployed" Everything we have now was earned through hard graft and not a penny off the state and if it all ended tomorrow, I would go and try something else; not wallow in self pity like most seem to do these days That's why it really pigs me off when the lefty prats come on here extolling the need for taxing the bosses and the entrepreneurs who have created jobs and wealth instead of giving them a break. Peter T
Asperity, And STILL people will vote for them!!! One day, folk might realise that voting power can be used to keep them focussed, by occasionally voting a party out of office. But, because folk don't bother, governments can do what they want.
