How long do x-rays take? seconds. Body scanning shouldn't take any longer than walking through the metal detector scans which we already do. Maybe we should all give up flying until the airlines get security properly sorted. Like I said before they are merely putting profit before public safety, body scanning is not a human rights issue here.

Perhaps if the fat cats overall started feeling the crunch they might put some pressure on the govt to deal effectively with terrorism in general.

Whatever, all this pussy footing around doesn't solve anything. Isn't it about time for some positive and effective action?

Firstly, they could stop robbing other countries national resources.

Secondly they could deal with those who commit or condone these murderous terrorist attacks on innocent members of the public in a manner appropriate to the crime.

Terrorism is an act of murder /attempted murder and should incurr the death penalty.

The murder or terrorism of innocent people is not condoned by any true religion. All religious leaders should excomunnicate terrorists if they don't they are not truly following their religion merely using it as a front for illegal acts.

Clerics condoning or encouraging terrorism should be regarded as excommunicated themselves and charged with terrorism.

Radical, positive effective!

No Human rights issues, as the right to life is the ultimate human right.

Terrorists shouldn't be able to prevent execution as the human rights act cannot be enforced if doing so would enfringe the human rights of others.

Queues at airports have been steadily increasing over the years. due to increasing numbers of passengers and this security thing has just made the ovine process even longer. As for "terrorists", it might help if folk who complain about transgressions in "our lands" (meaning somewhere in the M/East), perhaps they could be put on the next plane out - to "their" lands?!

Thought their belief system, didn't allow their women to reveal themselves to men other than their husband, hence the wearing of burkas etc. ?

The Koran actually has no rules on the subject. It says modesty is important for both men and women. It leaves it to the individual to determine for themselves what constitutes modesty. As with all religions, that means various sects and people have various opinions, from thinking that you should be completely covered to thinking that you can wear what you like as long as it's not going to get you arrested. As usual, it's the lunatic fringe who get the headlines and inform opinion.

Not at all. It advocates peaceful conduct BUT does say that the faithful should defend themselves and their faith against attack, using violence if necessary and in the event that you kill or die defending your faith, your violence is forgiven and you get to go to heaven.

That is taken and twisted by extremists who say that western conduct is an attack on their faith, so it is right to fight and kill. Load of rant, certainly not supported by the vast majority of Muslims, but there you go.

It's only the same as any other religion. People bend the rules to suit their beliefs and justify their actions. Look at Christianity - the Crusades for a start. Holy Wars. Now the Pope says condoms are murder because they prevent life. Never mind preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS. Protestants and Catholics have hacked each other about for years, the Spanish Inquisition was all in the name of God, and even today we have Jehovah's Witnesses who say a blood transfusion will send you to Hell and the Sally Army insisting that members of their church can't drink - in spite of the fact that the Bible has Jesus at the last supper insisting that his disciples drink wine.....

Personally, I think faith is a private matter but organised religions have caused more problems than they've ever solved.

Can't disagree LP; which makes one wonder why the hell, this Gov are pursuing the creation of "faith" schools in our education system. :?

We've always had faith schools. Catholic schools have been with us for ever. Basically, "school" is a non-religious setting, like the workplace. So any major expression of ANY religious belief is an issue that has to be resolved either by limiting the individual's freedom or making an exception to the rules. You end up with someone feeling they are being short-changed. It makes perfect sense where there is a community of like-minded people large enough to support a school, to have a school where the rules don't conflict with expressions of faith, but support them. Whether that's dress, prayers, food, single gender classes or whatever.

A secular education for all please, leaving mystical notions to Friday, Saturday or Sunday prayers, depending on the faith.

See, you can't do that if you belong to certain religions. It's a Western thing that worship is only for an hour on Sundays and you can sin as you please the rest of the week. If you are a member of some religions, then your faith actually does function as a set of guidelines for daily life. As long as faith schools are providing pupils with a standard of education that meets the legal requirements, and as long as everyone has the option of secular education if they prefer, then I don't see anything wrong with people learning in an environment that makes them feel comfortable.

Apart from the totally mythical and mystical nature of "faith"; it encourages indoctrination rather than education based on evidential inquiry. It, in the name of recognising "diversity", actually creates social division and hatred - a good reason if any, to ban all "faith" schools and maintain a wholey secular education system. The question of "standards", is about the school ethos - EG whether a school uniform is worn, and is worn properly and rules vigourously enforced - but after years of undermining the authority of teachers, our PC liberal culture has undermined that possibility. What the Parties are now suggesting, is trhat rather than Parents choosing the school, the school will choose the parents (something even more prevelent with "faith" schools); a recipe for elitism and the consignment of "difficult" pupils to sink schools.

Hang on, chaps. There's nothing says a faith school stands outside the law on educational standards, therefore pupils must be educated about other religions, just as in secular schools - which I remind you are all required by law to teach RE. Our supposedly "secular" schools are tasked somewhere in the rules with C of E/Christian values. There's nothing to stop indoctrination in secular schools either - that's a matter for the teaching staff. Look at the fervour over rugby - if that's not indoctrination, what is?!

Contraception is a vexed question even for Catholics, LK, whilst the celibate Vatican blokes in frocks sit on their hallmarked thrones putting the Pontiff in pontificate, you'll find most priests advising people to play safe and most parishioners educating their children about unwanted babies. But how does this relate to schools? I don't think even the most progressive under 16 secular establishment has condom vending machines in the loo.... even I would raise an eyebrow at that!
