Maybe the Lion is a new style of digital tv receiver Latchford has a local history society so if no-one on here knows they might know or maybe someone just fancied having something a little odd on their roof. You could always knock on their door and ask them

Evil Sid
they are not quite the same as the one in your picture. looking at it it has a sort of asian style to the look similar to ones seen on various temples and such. wonder if it was imported as a gate post and then used to adorn a roof instead. Dizzy
Dismayed, We have TWO History groups in Latchford. I will ask the other one next time I see them. Which is the group who have written the two books on the local schools? I've got one of the books already as a chap once knocked on the door selling them but I believe they have one for Bolton Primary School too. Wouldn't mind buying a copy if you know where sells them as my dad went there.

Wingnut
Is it a possibility that this particular lion is actually a "Cheshire Cat"? As a child, I had an elderly relative who lived by the Cheshire Cheese pub. It was a long time back, but I have a very slight recollection about it being a Cheshire Cat. But I could be wrong.
