Bill
So does anyone know what?s happening with the Parish Church spire? It seems to have been clad in scaffolding now for what must be coming up to two years now and nothing seems to be happening? Have they hit problems or have they run out of money on the job? Dizzy
I was speaking to someone at St Thomas' Church (which is being renovated at the moment) and they said the company doing the Parish Church Spire had gone bust. Don't know how true it is though.
Geoffrey Settle
I hope that doesn't impact on the proposed implementatiom of Swift nesting boxes.
Bill
All that scaffolding to put up a few nesting boxes Seriously, does anyone know what they were trying to do? And if the company?s gone bust does that mean the scaffolding is set to remain as a permanent feature of Warrington?s best known landmark? Whatever they were doing, I reckon in the past good old Fred Dibnah would have been up there dangling off his trusty old ladders and have the job done before a modern day health and safety committee could reach a decision on what biscuits to serve. DS
Bill As always when you pose a question, I spring into action! The Rector tells me that in fact that the scaffolding has been in place for just coming up to one year. The original firm DID go bust but another contractor and it is now expected that work will be completed by September at the latest! Some of the delay has been caused by the discovery of further problems when the menb got up there, but all is now proceeding well.
Evil Sid
sounds like s typical thing a roofer would say. "well it loked quite easy but we found few problems mate it'll take us a few more days to sort it out and the cost ssssst might be a bit more than we quoted" not sure how much the scaffolding costs to hire but that alone would be quite expensive
Gary
The full facts can now be viewed here http://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/articles/5700/1/Church-spire-work-progressing-well/Page1.html
Geoffrey Settle
Looks like the scaffolding has almost gone so hopefully the Warrington Nature Conservation can look forward to installing bird boxes for Swifts in time for next year's breeding season. As more and more houses have these plastic facings fitted which cover up their natural access to roof space the swifts are finding fewer places in Warrington. St Elphins is an ideal place for them.
