observer
A father picks up his two kids, and jumps off an hotel balcony, killing his son. The Coroner rules (rightly IMO), that the boy was "unlawfully" killed. A subsequent trial found the father to have been "temporalily" insane at the time of the killing and an appeal has therefore ruled out "unlawfull" killing. So does that mean, that if a nutter kills someone, it's lawfull killing?
asperity
This is one of those "catch22" questions isn't it? Only someone insane would do such a thing therefore he must have been insane at the time of the act. So the verdict may have been that the killing was not unlawful, it only applies to the law covering killing while sane, not to the law covering killing while the balance of the mind is disturbed. So he is still guilty of an unlawful act even if he can't be held responsible for his actions by reason of insanity (this is driving me mad!!!!) observer
Insane? Or just peeved that his wife was leaving him, so he commited a selfish act?
asperity
Thats why I say "Catch22", because, you would think, he would have to be insane to do such a thing
wahl
the only insane person is the "judge".
Tilly
There is a fine line between "mad" and "bad", act in haste, repent at leisure
observer
The guy who jumped off an hotel balcony in Greece, killing his son - is now being released - after just 3 years confinement.

Bazj
String him up of course.... regardless of how remorseful, crazy, stupid or evil he is; he killed a child. End of story
observer
Perhaps hung, drawn and quartered Baz, and televised at peak viewing time - that should up the viewing figures, if nothing else.
wahl
Following an investigation by Cheshire Constabulary and advice from the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to an allegation of assault that occurred in Warrington on August 26, no further action will be taken in respect of the 29-year-old female who was arrested in relation to the incident. ? another example of an incompetent agency that is useless at its job. Dizzy
Or maybe...... the 'person' who was allegedly attacked dropped all the charges after receiving some rather interesting press coverage regarding his somewhat colourful past and business ethics

Paul Kennedy
Guess it's only an ass if you don't get the result that you want or would like. The biggest problem with many of our laws is that they are just too complicated.
observer
Methinks the problem is: 1) There are tooo many laws (this Gov has produced more than any previous Gov), and they tend to be of a superficial and trivial nature and full of loop holes. 2) They are not enforced by the police and other agencies (eg: drivers using cell phones). 3) The penalties are too lenient to deter in some cases, with murderers now getting away with 6 years. So, all in all, we've drifted from order to anarchy.
