observer
How was it, that an eight year old girl, after having some milk teeth removed at the dentist, was allowed to keep her mouth closed and refuse food and liquids, to the point of starvation? Evil Sid
if they don't want to eat they won't. no amount of pleading or coercion will make them until they are ready, short of force feeding with a funnel. being allowed has nothing to do with it. observer
.. so you do realise folk can be "force fed", even if it's via a drip: to allow this to go on to the point of starvation sounds like gross neglect to me.
AdrianR
Ian Brady is getting force fed against his will so why not a 8 yr old child?
Evil Sid
cause it would probably be reported as child abuse with all the ensuing hue and cry that such an allegation dredges up.
Bill
My mother in law who was ninety on Sunday is extremely poorly in hospital. She?s refusing food and drink for some reason and seems to be going steadily downhill but the staff tells us that they?re not allowed to artificially or force feed anyone who?s refusing to eat. observer
I'm dam sure a concerned and responsible parent would feed the kid by any means possible.
de-stress
Bill, that may have had something to do with her age and condition.
de-stress
I watched a programme a few weeks ago about a child who had never eaten,7 or 8yr old.She had been kept alive by a peg feed in her tum.She was taken abroard to a clinic, where all tests were carried out to rule out any medical reason she wouldn't/couldn't eat.It turned out it was psychological,so the peg feed was removed and as long as she took fluids any further weight loss was ok.She did lose quite a bit more weight before she returned back to England.I don't know how she's progressing now but she had got to the stage of licking fruit and crisps and chips etc.So it is quite easy for a child to starve themselves, and this one was under a medical team
