Economic liability - goodbye.

Recommended Posts

A British passport holder who has lived in Canada for 27 years, was disabled by an accident while driving his lorry. Seems he'd been working on visas for all that time. :? Now, as a para-plegic, the Canadian Gov has decided he has become a drain on their benefits system and deported him back to the UK. The UK of course, wouldn't have been so callous (surprise, surprise). Who's right? :?

Perhaps UK citizenship should be conditional on either residency or paying a certain amount of UK tax? Fail to satisfy either of those criteria for a certain period of time and you get stripped of your right to a UK passport.

Wasn't there a case of a convicted murderer sent back from the US to Scotland last year? If I remember rightly, he hadn't set foot in the UK since his childhood.

The conviction was overturned in a US court, he therefore ceased to be a convicted murderer, but rather somebody who was wrongly convicted of something he didn't do......:)

Happen to believe that any non UK citizen convicted in a UK court should be expelled from the UK after they have completed their sentence. We have enough of our home grown criminals without needing imports adding to the numbers.

Maybe both are wrong  , Canada for being callous, and the UK for being too compassionate.
