observer
I believe the Electoral Commission are responsible for relating the number of constituents to their representation; although there are currently some wide variations. If Parliament decided to reduce the number of MPs, the EC would be responsible for delineating the new boundaries. As for housing them in a Hostel: it's easier and cheaper to guard than a dispersed target!

observer
This saga goes from bad to worse: we had a situation where MPs were acting inline with an ambiguous or no rule situation, which though immoral, wasn't illegal. Now along comes Legg, who sets new retrospective standards on cleaning and gardening (NB. but not on second mortgages), and seeks to reclaim the money. Problem: if MPs refuse to pay back monies, it's probable they could win their cases in court, though perhaps not at the next election. The only way to "clean up" politics to the satisfaction of "the public", is to employ "the public" (say a jury of 12 ORDINARY people) to set down new standards to be observed by MPs for the future, which would be far more draconian than the half hearted postering we've got at the moment. observer
.. and they still havn't got round to sorting them out. The simple and more democratic solution, would be to simply terminate all life and heredity peerages and replace them with a 100 seat Senate, based on the proportion of votes at a G/Election, the majority would form the Executive (Gov) and they would receive a salary and nothing else, like MPs should. Paul Kennedy
He's more than just an honourable member, he's actually a Right Honourable Member, as he was made a Privy Councillor a couple of years ago. PS Great plaque.
