Waste Incinerator for Warrington?

The council are claiming that an incinerator is the best way forward to deal with residual waste ie what's left in your black bin rather than send to landfill. This a common misconception around the country with many coucils peddaling the same theory. Yes, modern incinerators are cleaner than the old fashioned ones but they are still very hungry beasts that are usually tied up in contracts which lead the council to feeding it for the next 20 to 25 years with heavy fines if they don't provide sufficient waste. In other words, they're not flexible and can't take advantage of changes in society and our waste over that period. Just think how much less most of us our putting in our bins in comparison with this time last year? For the incinerator to be efficient, it needs a constant supply, in many incinerators in both this country and other parts of Europe it can be seen that recycling rates tend to be lower where an incinerator needs feeding. Back to our bines, what's left at the moment is mainly consists of plastics and food waste. Food waste can (and should) be collected on a weekly basis and dealt with separately and there is a very high possibility that the plastics which we currently can't recycle with either be phased out or a method of recyling be found. Actually the plastic issue is another interesting (well maybe not interesting but you get the idea!) point, they're made from oil, should we really be burning a finite resource?

Maybe they need "new" prisons, with flush toilets etc: cos apparently a Judge has ruled, that "slopping out" infringes the "human rights" of prisoners, and it's cost the tax-payer ?millions in compensation claims!:twisted:

And remember folks.....it is only going to get worse with these bunch of idiots running us!!

Well anyone but the Labour Party and Europe.

Unfortunately we are only ever going to get rid of the first one!

The problem is PJ, back in 1997 when Labour came to power, they came to power on a massive landslide of public opinion and public backlash against the sleazy tory party who were seen to be corrupt; both moraly and ethically. People didn't like the holier than thou attitude of ministers who were seen by the public to be self serving pigs with only their own interests at heart.

Fast forward 11 or 12 years and the above is still true only this time it is the Torys who have the upper hand and it is the Labour Grovernment who are in the mire.

Of course you will get apologists for Labour who will defend the indefensible at all costs because of "what Maggie did" etc. and because "Cameron is a posh bloke" etc but unfortunately for Labour, their time is up. Things have come full circle and it is Browns turn to pack up his belongings and bog off back to Scotland

Real politics doesn't play a great part in general elections; it is all about characters and personalities and whether you vote Labour or Tory (and some even vote LibDem believe it or not!) Brown does not have the personality to convince anyone I'm afraid

Think that is a pretty accurate summary Baz...although I'm not sure Mr B will be going back to Scotland, life is better south of the border.:)

PS Not sure they want him back in anycase. :D

Maybe the Tories will get Shaun Woodward back after the next election..... he is a real posh bloke who has obviously only been on loan to labour while they were in Government!! Once they are ousted, he will be crawling back telling everyone that he really is a Tory at heart!!
