Seems Henry II, grandson of William the Conk; brought in a system of common law administered by circuit judges, who came from London to the provinces to ensure a common standard of justice throughout the country. :? As with many such things in our anachronistc country, that system still exists today - with the visiting circuit judge still being met by the Lord High Sherriff of the County. :roll::wink:
