DS
A new survey by academics has shown that school children who play cricket behave better in class and are more respectful towards teachers than those who don't. They attribute this to the fact that cricket is still, apparently, a game which involves fair play, sportsmanship and a general observance of the rules. They do not say whether the same trend has been noticed in Australia!
inky pete
...or possibly it's because it's a game which involves a degree of discipline, a thoughtful approach, and an ability to take a slightly longer view than most. Because of this, cricket will naturally attract kids who have these attributes, and these same attributes will show in their general behaviour. So it's not a case of "playing cricket makes kids behave better", rather it's "better behaved kids often enjoy cricket".
Legion
that sweeping generaliszation is unfair...in fact it's just not cricket

Lt Kije
It also said in the survey that kids that play cricket are more likely to commit suicide, could because cricket is such a boring game
inky pete
No, as I said it's a game which encourages thoughtfulness and a longer term view. The kids just take a look at the world they're inheriting, have a think about it, and who can blame them if a few don't fancy it.
busby
They attribute this to the fact that cricket is still, apparently, a game which involves fair play, sportsmanship and a general observance of the rules. So that's why they had to introduce video replays
DS
That is why I inserted the word "apparently"! Incidentally, I don't think the survey mentioned suicide at all. Certainly not the version I saw.
