British Airways have been steadily losing the plot down the years, going off a precipice since 9/11. As for Muttzy and his orders, that's soooo funny!!!

(After all, he might have Tony Blair and Gordon Brown laughing smugly while the heavies drag him away from his seat in the next Labour Party Conference! :D )

Seems BA are now relying on the Italians to sort it out, so I think this saga truely qualifies as daft.

"The British Airways lost luggage farce deepened last night when it emerged that the airline is sending thousands of bags out of Heathrow to be sorted through in Milan, only for them then to be sent back to England.

Heaps of the baggage are being sent to cheap sub-contractors in Italy to be sorted - and some of the luggage despatched there is then being sent on to its owners' destinations after the passengers have finished their trips and returned home.

BA also admitted the true scale of the baggage shambles last night, saying that an astonishing 28,000 customers had lost luggage over the last three weeks. The crisis began when a baggage belt broke at Heathrow in mid-December, was compounded by fog problems, and another baggage belt broke on December 29."

Daily Mail 5/1/7

On a more serious note, given our obsession with security and terrorists, don't these bags now represent an ideal opportunity for some "nutter" to do something evil. Always amazes me how security concerns, rules, regulations etc fall apart when put under presssure:(

PS Hope nothing does happen, I might be accused of inspiring it and don't fancy Cuba for my hols. :D

PPS Maybe BA could fly in some Romanians or Bulgarians, on a temporary work permit, to do the work in the UK.

Here's today's one from the Times:

"Red tape has given way to black marker tape for thousands of bemused civil servants as part of a ?7 million paperclip revolution aimed at ensuring that they keep the tools of their trade in the right place.

Office workers have been given the tape to mark out where they should put their pens and pencils, their computer keyboards and to indicate where to place their phones.

National Insurance staff have been chosen as guinea-pigs for the latest phase of the ?Lean? programme brought in by the logistics consultants Unipart. The programme prohibits workers from keeping personal items on their desks.

The drive, which is intended to keep clutter away from the workspace and improve efficiency, was derided by one union last night as minimalist madness.

The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) criticised the efficiency drive as ?demeaning and demoralising?, saying that it reduced staff to little more than machines, on the whim of consultants.

The National Insurance department at Longbenton, Northumberland, has been picked as a pilot site for the latest clear-desk concept. Revenue & Customs declined to say how much Unipart had been paid for the project. But a PCS spokesman said that the project was costing ?7.4 million nationally. "

Excuse me for a moment whilst I just go and bang my head against a wall. :(:D

All the aforemantioned wwaste and lack of common sense was created by Bliar and the Labour government incompetent mismangement of this country.

They have created a world of stupidity with their stupid emphasis on creating laws and punishment and nanny state mentality

Not sure this one really belongs here.......or maybe it does, but it saves me having to start a topic:

"ANGRY Jeanette Gordon-Crawley and her husband hit out yesterday over plans to probe their smoking habits at home.

Council chiefs have told the couple they face a health investigation after a neighbour claimed fumes from their ciggies were invading her living room.

Moira Duell, an environmental health officer with Gwynedd County Council, North Wales, sent them a letter headed: ?Alleged Odour Nuisance?.

She wrote: ?I recently received a complaint concerning the above. Although at the present time the complaint has not been investigated, the complainant(s) have been informed to keep records of the alleged nuisance."

Maybe the complainant will use this as a crafty way to be rehoused.

Possibly Mick, on the other hand it could be that some of us feel the need to make interesting information available to the wider world or that we do it to ensure that this Forum remains vibrant and survives.....bit like democracy really if too few people participate on a regular basis it dies.

Totnes seem to have gone daft, probably too much sea air.

"Prayers held at council meetings in Totnes, one of the oldest boroughs in the country, have been scrapped after nearly 600 years - over fears the prayers would offend other religions... Eric Pickles MP, Shadow Minister for Local Government, criticised the decision: "This is a deeply troubling move, which I hope other councils will not be foolish enough to follow. Such absurd town hall political correctness actually serves to undermine community cohesion and tolerance towards all religions. The Lord's Prayer is an important part of the religious and cultural fabric of our nation.""

Daft, incompetent and a breach of data protection laws:

"Confidential details sent to MI5 by thousands of individuals and businesses have ended up with an American company specialising in supermarket mailshots.

The security service's new email early warning system was designed to reassure the public in the wake of the July 7 bombings and the disclosure of a string of failed terror plots.

It was launched by the Home Office last week. The Government said it was part of a long-planned programme to keep the public better informed about the terrorist threat.

People signing up for the alerts were asked to type their name and email details into the MI5 website alongside an assurance their personal information would be protected by the Data Protection Act and the Security Services Act."

"An American entertainment lawyer and his wife are seeking millions of dollars in compensation for being traumatised by bedbugs at one of London?s top luxury hotels.

Sidney Bluming, 62, who has represented Dame Elizabeth Taylor and the model Claudia Schiffer, claims that he and his wife, Cynthia, were covered in red, itchy welts from the insects after a five-night stay at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel last May.

Lawyers acting for the couple confirmed yesterday that they had filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit with the federal court in Manhattan, for the ?mental harm and anguish? that they suffered as a result of the infestation. "

I notice the lawsuit has been filed in Manhattan, I assume in order to maximise the "payout".

Top lawyer sues for millions over bedbug ordeal at hotel

Blimey, good job he didn't have to stay in some of the places around the world I've stayed in over the years. :D

" I cannot shake your hand, sir. I'm a Muslim and you're a man

A Muslim woman police officer has sparked a new debate by refusing to shake hands with Britain's most senior police chief for religious reasons.

The incident happened at a passing-out parade where Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair was inspecting a line-up of 200 recruits.

In addition to refusing a traditional congratulatory handshake from Sir Ian, the WPC - who wore a traditional Muslim hijab headscarf - also declined to be photographed with him as she did not want the picture used for 'propaganda purposes'.

The woman had earlier insisted that it was contrary to her religious teaching for her to touch a man. "

I cannot shake your hand, sir. I'm a Muslim and you're a man

Didn't anybody consider the implications of a person's beliefs in the selection procedure, don't police women have to arrest men......sometimes involving a struggle

Sunday Telegraph:

"Foreign terrorist suspects are free to enter Britain because an EU "wanted" list cannot be checked by British immigration officers.

The EU database of suspected criminals cannot be checked by British immigration officers

Police chiefs have warned Parliament that the loophole is putting national security at risk. Ministers have asked Brussels to grant Britain access to the list, but the request has been blocked by a legal wrangle. The revelation comes as a further blow to John Reid, the Home Secretary, who is battling to restore his reputation after it emerged his department failed to record on the police national computer the names of 27,500 Britons convicted overseas."
