asperity
Did anyone see the news coverage of Paul Gadd alias Gary Glitter arriving back in the UK? Anyone would think he was important rather than a sad dirty old man. And was it really necessary for half a dozen police officers to board the plane when it landed and escort him off to the nearest police station? Surely one (or at most two) bobbies could have been stationed at Immigration and arrested him there. It is incredible that the media have hyped this into a story of such magnitude that it was the main item on last night's ITN bulletin. There are far more important things going on that the media seems intent on ignoring, instead of which we are fed this diet of B celebrity tattle. The worlds gone mad! Eagle
He should have been transported in the baggage hold (by mistake of course) and the appropriate persons could have done their best to thaw him out in the nearest Crematorium. observer
Makes a change from the pathetic antics of Amy Winehouse, another negative role model, in a week where all the positive role models are in Beijing; I agree, they shouldn't be given any air time. Steve the Original
He should of been carted off straight to the nick and then left with the lags in there for a week or two see if he came out in one piece  I wonder what record he will bring out next??  "I wanna be in your kids your kids, your kids!!"   Steve
Eagle
I touch of self-moderation needed there Steve, apart from it being a decade old is it suitable for this forum? Â You would certainly have chipped in if I had posted it.
wolfie
Eagle would that moderation concern the statement "I wanna be in your kids your kids, your kids!!" Â or about the continued use of the word 'of' as in 'He should of been carted off ' instead of using the correct word 'have'
tonymaillman
You have to make allowances for scousers wolfie
wolfie
I of tried not to use the term 'scousers' recently to avoid becoming predictable. Â I of obviously failed, perhaps I should of continued as I began.
Dizzy
He is nothing more than a disgusting old man and they should have locked him up again or better still put him down like the very sick animal he obviously is  Instead he has been freed and sent back to our country because no other country would allow him in... good on them and who can blame them.  What really p*****s me off is that he just has to sign on the sex offenders register over here and I presume he is then free to live wherever he wants. Bazj
The one angle I don't like is the fact that he is the ONLY sex offender who is plastered all over the papers and the news. EVERY one of the disgusting low life should have their pictures in every paper and on every TV; there should be a special TV channel which just shows up to date pictures of them so that everybody knows where they all live. Â You would think that Glitter is the only paedophile in the bloody country!
Dizzy
Very true BazJ..... Â I'm with you 110% on that one and they should all be named, shamed and details viewable. Â Some may say that doing this may put 'them' at risk of attack etc etc but so what !!!! Perhaps it may make the low lifes think twice about offending in the first place if they know that their whereabouts, names and mug shots will be freely available to all . Â They don't deserve any form of protection or anonymity in my view and if they offend then they deserve what they get
Eagle
If you are an 'at risk' ex-criminal you are awarded round the clock protection, if you are an 'at risk' non-criminal you can phone for assistance from plod and you will be attended to at plod's convenience which is about three days after you wanted the assistance. Â They have got there priorities right haven't they? Â Gadd should be allowed back into the community and allowed to fend for himself (it wouldn't be long) without wasting any of our money. observer
There is no cure for his condition, therefore permanent imprisonment would seem appropriate.

asperity
It's reported that he has a fortune of around ?50 million and an annual income of ?50,000 from royalties, so if he wants protection he can well afford to pay for it himself without troubling the taxpayer.
Dizzy
Perhaps he should have had to hand over a substantial amount as a fine too then and as for income from 'royalties' he shouldn't get any at all... surely radios etc etc don't still play his music do they
Bazj
well everytime they played the clip of him on sky news and BBC and ITV etc. last week when he was on his way back; he would get royalties for it. Â Just the way it isI suppose but you would have thought the media would know better??
Legion
His high profile makes him a target and he will suffer every day for the rest of his life, He will not have anywhere he can go where he will not be attacked either verbally of physicaly in this country and so I pitty him. Â There are so many more out there who go unseen, these are the ones who are a real threat to our children. Â He should give all his money to the protection of children and be a spokesman for overcoming his condition, and just maybe he can save himself. Â Its very hypocritcal of the countries that have held him on these charges, the same countries who have a whole tourist industry based around child prostitution. Â We need to close that down first. Â I'mmnot defending him here, God no, but the lynch mob attitude stops this topic from being discussed in a productive way. Â until we can measure and profile the levels of this mental disgrace instead of demonising, only then can we tackle the problem. Â and the lynch mob attitude is such that anyone not demonising it as one big filthy abhor gets cast with it. Â the hole subject needs opening up and tackling. observer
Legion; within the context of human rights, there is no cure, hence no solution - however much folk "talk" about it. So your left with the constant fear by parents of these perverts in society, creating social inertia. Now, there could be treatments, ranging from aversion therapy (ouch!) to a labotomy, but I don't think that would be considered PC!
