observer
Errm yes: BUT I thought our prisons were full? Seems also, that folk (drug dealers etc) are now breaking INTO prisons to supply inmates. We have Prison Officers "too scared" to administer muslim prisoners! So shouldn't Gordon be doing something about building more prisons and introducing some security and dicipline prior to sending more folk to them? Legion
since news of knife crime is esculating I have only just found out that its illegal to carry a knife in the car since I read a news report about a woman avoiding conviction as she justified the knife by her working in the catering trade (hot dog stand as I recall)...shocking since I have had a knife in my car for years !!! not for any untoward persuit, or defence, I just find it a handy tool to have in the car, anong with a pare of pliers and adjustable spanner and one of each +- screwdrivers... just the boyscout in me.... not that I have ever had a boyscout in me...I aint no vicar
observer
So kids will now be leaving the knife in the kitchen, and taking out a screwdriver - yer can't win Gordon! Think you need to address the causes, not the symptoms.
Steve the Original
What happened to the statement"being equipt to commit a crime" doesnt that exist anymore??? so carrying a screwdriver without reason can also be an offence.... have the laws changed so much in the UK? asperity
Damilola Taylor was killed by a broken bottle. So are bottles to be banned as well. Lousy knee jerk as usual Gordon. The police need to go back to enforcing existing laws. We don't need any more ill thought out legislation!
observer
The Police have always been able to arrest folk for "carrying an offencive weapon"; I recall a striking building worker being arrested 40 years ago, for carrying a knife (and fork), which he used to eat his dinner! Just more knee jerk spin to pile on even more legislation, rather than providing the resources to enforce existing laws.
